Our PYPx Overviews
At the beginning of this week each student created an overview slide for their exhibition, representing key information about their issue, SDG, transdisciplinary theme, and their lines of inquiry. If you are on campus, please come by the front of the year 6 classrooms (Next to Ms Lindsay's office) to see a display showing all of these overviews! If you aren't on campus you can view each student's overview on their portfolio page on this website.
Our First Mentor Meetings!
This week, students found out who their mentor is, sent them their introductory email, arranged the first meeting and attended their first meeting! It was a very exciting process that the students enjoyed and benefitted from immensely. Mentors provided guidance with lines of inquiry, questions, note-taking, finding resources connecting to key concepts and much more!
See how excited they were to receive their mentors!!
Below you can see the list of mentors, students and issues (this can also be found on the mentor page) some initial meetings taking place and some reflections from mentors and students.
"We had our first mentor meetings and started researching. The exhibition is getting fun now!" - Paul
Learning about Sources!
Student engaged with two of our LIS community members this week, our Librarian, Ms B, and our technology Coach Mr Duffy.
Ms B engaged the students in thinking about the difference between a PRIMARY and SECONDARY source of information and why were need both to be a balanced researcher. Students became experts by the end of the lesson and then were able to start finding resources within the library to add to their collection before they began researching.
Mr Duffy came to talk to Year 6 about another important issue connected to sources and that is CITING SOURCES and creating a BIBLIOGRAPHY. He taught Year 6 how to use a Chrome 'Add on' called 'Easybib'. Students can add websites, images and books that they use as sources of information and it automatically generates the bibliography for them in a googledoc that they have created in their PYPx folder! Students are also reminded that it is good practice to cite the source they have used for a particular section of note-taking directly below the notes, so they can know where that information came from. Please watch the video below to find out how Easybib works so that you can support your child/mentee/friend.
Present, Connect, Reflect #2 (Year 5 Students)
This week for our 2nd present, connect, reflect, Year 6 students shared the process of the first 3 weeks with Year 5 students! This is something that has not been done before at LIS! It was very successful and a great way for Year 6 students to show leadership skills and inform Year 5 students about what to expect and focus on when they begin the exhibition process next year!
Logo Designing and Voting
This week students completed their logos for the PYPx 2022. Below are a few examples and photo of the display board showing all of them together, it is here that students went to vote on the logo that they felt best and uniquely represented the PYPX 2022! You can find each student's logo design on their portfolio page (soon!). The winning logo will be exhibited on the home page of this website and used in any promotional material for the Exhibition!
And the winner is....
