Research Continues
Students were inquiring further into their first line of inquiry this week. They used their key questions to guide their research, cited sources using Easybib and some reached out to primary sources for interviews. Students decided on their own way to organise their note-taking. Below are a few examples of ongoing research:
Literacy inspiration and beginning the writing process
At the beginning of the week we were visited by 2 community members who are published authors! Year 2 teacher, Ms Catarina and Year 9 student, Domiciano came to talk to us about what inspired their writing, and the process that they went through to reach publication. Following this, Year 6 students began their own writing. Choices varied from emails to experts, stories, infographics, biographies, letters, graphic novels, poems and more. Here are some examples of writing in progress:
Mentor Meetings Continue..!
Students are really enjoying their one-on-one mentor support. Some mentors have given feedback on their mentees lines of inquiry and helped to refine them, suggested primary sources of information and helped to arrange interviews, helped with note-taking organisation and guiding questions, given advice and or feedback on art and literacy ideas and much much more! We thank our mentors for all of their time and support!
Key Understandings - Process Vs Knowledge
Each week, students reflect on their learning and are able to synthesise and summaraise their learning for the week into one key understanding. This is separated into two parts: knowledge and process. To help create their knowledge understanding students collet key words from their research that week. They then choose two or more main ideas and link them in a sentence stating the relationship between them. For the process understanding students summarise a key understanding they have learned about the process of the exhibition, whether it refers to skills they are developing, how to be a good researcher, what collaborating means to them etc. Below are a few examples of understandings generated so far (these can all be found in each students process journal on their portfolio page):
I understand that on all cruelty-free products there is a leaping bunny logo, if a product has that it has not tested on animals.
I understand that levels of poverty could go down over the world, while some individual countries go up.
I understand that discrimination is common towards to people with mental health.
I understand that a blockchain is a transaction that works with any cryptocurrency.
I understand that when doing research you need to make sure you have accurate information and check more than one source.
I understand that using the add ons such as easybib, can help cite your sources easier and give completely accurate credit to the person.
I understand that we have different types of question like open and closed questions.and some questions are better than others to help me inquire.
I understand that my art for my exhibition is something that can help me express my work
