Executive power is exercised by the President of the Nation, who is directly elected together with the candidate for vice-presidency. The second round takes place between the two most voted if in the first round the most voted candidate did not obtain more than 45% of the valid votes or if, after having obtained between 40% and 45%, he has a gap of less than 10 % from the second most voted candidate. The President and Vice President remain in office for four years and can be re-elected for a second immediately following term.
