The construction

The building was built by the work of many people . The main engeneers who created the Eiffel Tower project were Gustave Eiffel , Maurice Koechlin , Émile Nouguier while the architect who contributed most to his design was Stephen Sauvestre. The construction of the Eiffel Tower lasted 2 years, 2 months and 5 days. It began in 1887 and was inaugurated and opened to the public in 1889.

Gustave Eiffel

The tower was given the name of the most important engineer who helped to design it, Gustave Eiffel, who was known for having created the internal structure of the Statue of Liberty in New York. However, it was not Gustave Eiffel who conceived the initial project.

The initial project

In fact the initial project was created by Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier. Eiffel simply sent his best collaborator to Paris, the architect Stephen Sauvestre, who corrected some errors of the project, making the project workable.

The final project that became reality

When the building was built, a lot of Parisian artists criticized it, calling it “unnecessary and monstrous”. In 1909 it risked being demolished, but was saved thanks to the increase in tourists and its usefulness for communication reasons. In fact, during its history it was also used for scientific purposes: for meteorological measurements, for air analysis and to facilitate radiotelegraphic communication. It was also used during the First World War to communicate with warships and airships and to intercept enemy messages. But although when it was built the critics were to many, currently the Eiffel Tower is considered one of the most extraordinary buildings in the world.
