Milan citizens love the cathedral so much that they have created a song called "O mia bela madunina ". It describes the beauty of the holy virgin statue on the top of the roof. It is the landmark for everyone who is born in the city and the best attraction for the visitors who see it shine from afar, as the song says.

A lot of musicians have performed in front or inside the cathedral, one of the last to sing was Andrea Bocelli who held a concert alone in the church to celebrate Easter while there was the emergency of Covid-19.

His performance was broadcast live all around the world and it was followed by millions of people fascinated by the unusual concert.

There is also an official choir of the cathedral which is the oldest cultural institution in Milan, since 1402 when the "Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo" created a polyphonic group of musicians.

They sing every Sunday during the mass, there is also a school created to teach singing in this choir.

music events

There is a full month dedicated to the music in the cathedral, it is usually in October. There are some "free" entry concert s where classical music tracks are played by singers and musicians to raise money through donations.

Every New Year's Eve a concert is held in the square in front of the church where a big stage is set to host the most important Italian artists.
