History
The city was built in the 1440 a.C. by the emperor Pachacutec and it was probably a noble summer residence. When Pachacutec died Machu Picchu lost importance and during the inca civil war the imperial family couldn't mantein control of the farmers that returned to their cities of birth. Machu PIcchu was inhabited until 1532 when conquistadores conquered it; then the city has been littered and nobody found it for 4 centuries. In fact It's located on the crest between two mountains and it's encircled by precipices so it was really hided and well defended. Machu Picchu has been "rediscovered" in 1911 by an american historian but there are some sources that affrim it was "rediscovered"1894.
Emperor Pachacutec
His full name was Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui (Parachuti means "earth shaker" and Yupanqui means "with honor"). He was the ninth ruler of the Inca state, and he conquered many territories in south America and put them together with the Inca's empire. He was a good emperator in fact the testimonies affirm that he was honest, generous and valorous, in fact he was also identified as "son of the Sun" .
