Year 6 have had a conscientious, yet enjoyable first week back as we are on the home straight now leading towards SATs. The children are working incredibly hard at school and are busy keeping up with their reading and SATs homework books at home. In maths we have been learning to read line graphs and practising SATs style questions. We've really enjoyed reading (and listening to) a variety of poems in reading lessons, looking out for poetic features such as personification, repetition and imagery. We also analysed a chapter from the mystery book, 'Operation Sabre,' by Glenn Carter. This chapter alone filled us with suspense and many of us would now like to read the rest of the book to find out what happens. Our writing lessons have been jam packed full of adventure too as we've learnt about Earnest Shackleton and his incredible journey to the South Pole in 1914. As part of our learning, we wrote a persuasive formal letter to Shackleton, trying to convince him that we would be a brave and worthy enough candidate to join his intrepid crew. Finally, in PE, we have been working on our aim and accuracy, using various skills and trying to beat our opponents.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be learning:
Maths - Revision of fractions
Writing - Writing a narrative
Reading - We will be studying non-fiction texts
Science - Circuits, Batteries and Switches. We are planning an Electricity Day at some point this term.
