YEAR 4

Year 4 have been very busy this week.

In English, we have been explaining the features of instruction writing and are writing instructions for making a snow shelter. We made sure our instructions were in chronological order and included imperative (bossy) verbs. In Maths, we have been using over multiplication knowledge to help us divide two and three digit numbers by a one digit number. We have used partitioning known as the part, part, whole model and the short method in our calculations.

In Science, we have been exploring if temperature affects the evaporation of water from fabric. We placed an equal amount of water (20ml) onto equally sized pieces of cloth. We weighed them before and after we added the water so we would know if they were completing dry as they would return to their original weight. We placed one piece of fabric on a hot radiator, one on a cold radiator and one outside on a washing line. Some of our results surprised us as we found out gravity and the wind could also affect the result.

As part of our study of Judaism in RE, we have a very exciting visit to Wimbledon Synagogue. We were shown the features of the synagogue, wore a kippah and a tallit (Prayer shawl), explored the Torah Scrolls and tried challah bread and grape juice as part of a re-enactment of the Shabbat meal. We impressed our guides with our knowledge of Judaism, answering questions that they said no other school groups had been able to answer.

On Thursday, we put on our Elf hats and took part in the Elf Run to raise money for St Raphael's Hospice . We did an amazing job on such a cold day.

We are looking forward to all the wonderful end of term events next week and we would like to wish everyone a happy and relaxing holiday and look forward to welcoming you back to school in January.
