NEWSLETTER - 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

We are fast approaching the end of term and we have a lot of excited children ready for the festive break! Thank you to everyone who has supported our events this year, which includes our PTFA events.

Enormous thanks to our PTFA who have organised a series of successful fundraising events. As you are all aware, the money raised from these events makes a real difference to the funding of extra resources and on the experiences of all pupils.

Very well done to all of our wonderful children who have worked hard and had an amazing term! Well done also to those children who have represented the school at various events this term.

Thank you also to our staff and governors for their continued hard work.

We wish you and your family a happy and peaceful Christmas break.

We look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 4th January 2023.

STAFF NEWS

It is with a very heavy heart that we will have to say goodbye to the lovely Mrs Head, Teaching Assistant in Year 6, ELSA Supervisor and self appointed Head Librarian next week, Friday 16th December.

Mrs Head has worked as a TA at Brookfield for nearly 14 years and I am sure most of you will agree, she is the fabric of the school and will be sadly missed. She has made such a huge impact on all of the children who have been lucky enough to work with her, however she is not leaving the trust completely, she is moving to work within the Central Team HR department.

I am sure you will all join us in wishing her all the very best for the future.

HOUSE TEAMS

As you know at Brookfield Primary, we use a house point reward system to recognise the positive behaviour of our pupils. The children love earning house points and are always very excited to add their tokens to the overall total. Each week, the house points will be counted up and this will be shared with the children during achievement assemblies.

This half term the winning house is the Blue Team!

Scores:

Blue - 760

Yellow - 565

Green - 551

Red - 413

SUSTAINABILITY - TREE PLANTING AT BROOKFIELD

On 6th December, members of the LEO Pupil Parliament took part in an exciting opportunity linked to sustainability. They working alongside staff from the London Borough of Sutton to plant trees at Brookfield Primary to help promote sustainable living within the local community.

PTFA UDPATES

Firstly - from all of the staff, pupils and their families at Brookfield Primary we just wanted to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to the amazing PTFA ladies for all of their incredible hard work in putting on yet another awesome fundraising event (please see below how much money they raised). Also, thank you for the lovely festive Christmas lights and Christmas tree. We are so lucky to have you.

PTFA Update

We just wanted to say thank you all for all your support with our Christmas Light Switch on and Mini Festive Fair on Friday. From your generous donations to our tombolas and Elfridges, to those of you that gave up your time to help us set up and run the event, and to everyone who came along on Friday evening. While the fair was very different from last year, we were delighted with the wonderful turn out and we were overwhelmed with the support we received - the unplanned fire engine visit won’t be forgotten for a while!

We are still finalising the totals, however we can confirm that we raised more than £1,100 - a phenomenal amount in just a few hours. The school and the children will very much appreciate these funds and we will be asking each year group for a list of supplies they would like for their classrooms.

For those of you asking, the name of the elf and the winner will be revealed this week, and a full list of raffle winners will be emailed out and posted on the PTFA noticeboard so winners can collect their prizes from the office.

There's still a few events from us until the end of term. Firstly, the Light Trail event starts today and runs until Thursday 15th December. It's really easy to get involved, children can buy a map and entry form for £1 from the school office. All they have to do is find the letters displayed at each house on the trail and use them to unscramble the festive word. Entry forms can be returned to the office to be entered into the prize draw to win a £50 voucher, sponsored by Ivy Gate Estate Agents. Each entry form costs £1 and the whole family can get involved (one form per person) - please do join in. Please note - the school office will not have change so please bring the correct money!

Also, if you haven't got your Christmas tree yet, our beautiful tree was donated by Pines and Needles who are offering a 10% discount to Brookfield to families. Our closest stores are in Wimbledon and Kingston. Visit www.pinesandneedles.com for full details. The discount code you need is BROOKFIELD10

SOCIAL MEDIA - TWITTER

Twitter

As you will already be aware at Brookfield Primary and the LEO Academy Trust we love a good tweet!

Please follow @BrookfieldSM3 and @LEOacademies on Twitter to be kept up-to-date with all of the exciting activities, learning and events that the children are participating in.

Twitter is also the only form of communication shared by the staff when the KS2 children are away on residential trips - seeing how much fun the children are having makes missing them not quite so bad, the children definitely do not look like they are missing home!

Please note that we only tweet photos of children who have photo permission and we only ever use their first name. Also, we do not keep the photos that we tweet so if you see a photo of your child that you would like you can save these onto your own device by clicking on the 3 dots on the photo and selecting save. Also if you see a post that interests you, please can we ask you to share/retweet.

If you would like your child to be included in our twitter posts, please ensure that you have consented to social media. If you are unsure please look at your child's profile on the Arbor app and contact the school office if you wish to make a change.

SPORTS NEWS

IN SCHOOL WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING.....

POLITE REMINDER

Over the past few months there has been a large number of Chromebook styluses that have gone home with the children and then subsequently these have got lost. Please can you ensure that if you child takes home their stylus (especially those children in Year 3 who have built in styluses) that they stay attached to their Chromebooks or in their Chromebook bags.

As a Trust we will not be able to sustain these losses moving forward and it would be such a shame for children if they cannot access things like Kaligo and handwriting on jamboard/nearpod etc.

Thank you for your continued support.

DOODLE MATHS AND TIMES TABLE ROCKSTARS

We are delighted to let you know that Ms Rubio has been recognised as the Doodle Teacher of the Week. This is no mean feat with the hundreds of schools using Doodle across the country and around the world. She has been doing an excellent job at supporting students with making progress with Doodle.

This week's top class Doodlers are: Crystal Class

Harry (Crystal) has achieved a 50-Day streak in DoodleEnglish.

Jay in Amber has achieved a 100-Day streak in Doodle Maths and Joshua A in Crystal has achieved an impressive 250-Day streak in DoodleEnglish. Congratulations!

Remember to play your 5 a day and stay in the Green Zone so your class can have a chance to win our fabulous trophy.

Times Table Rockstars

Brookfield's top scorers on TTRockstars this week are:

Year 2 - Anish (Garnet)

Year 3 - Veer (Opal)

Year 4 - Vishnu (Amethyst)

Year 5 - Joel (Moonstone)

Year 6 - Daisy (Quartz)

The class with the most points is Amethyst Class with 1924 points. Congratulations!

RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOLS - UNICEF

Each week, a child in each class will be rewarded with a certificate for their efforts to contribute to one of the articles in our charter.

For more information about the rights of the child click here.

At Brookfield we are beginning our journey to achieve our Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award and children will continue learning about the rights of the child.

This week we have been thinking of article 4 as we celebrate Human Rights Day on 10th December.

On 10th December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This important moment in human history is now remembered on that date every year and is known as Human Rights Day.

All children have the same human rights as adults. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out the additional rights that all children have until the age of 18.

Children’s rights are human rights so we can celebrate them alongside the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Article 4 says 'Your rights are protected':

The government has a responsibility to make sure your rights are protected. They must help your family to protect your rights and create an environment where you can grow and reach your potential.

Please discuss this article with your child and let them reflect on the following:
