Jimmy John's

Lately, I have fallen in love with an American favorite called Jimmy John’s. The sandwich preparation is hard to catch because of how speedy the process is completed. Stopping by a few days ago, I was thrilled to understand the fuss about why they are known for their “fast” sandwich making. I now know. Walking in I had a massive, white grin stapled onto my face from looking at an illuminated sign outside that said, “Free Smells”. What does that even mean? Am I supposed to ask for a free waft of a sandwich? I was laughing hysterically. After getting over that, I was greeted with a slightly overwhelming menu and an even bigger Jimmy John’s worker. I ordered the number 1, or what regulars call it, The Pepe. The whole meal came at a bargain. For only $7 I got a meal that consisted of spicy jalapeno chips, a large drink, and a scrumptious sandwich stuffed with applewood smoked ham and provolone cheese garnished with lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

All of the recipes on the menu seem to have precise ways of preparation, so I was surprised to find out that they can serve you in seconds.

Seconds….. is not an exaggeration.

After placing my order, I quickly scrammed over to a big glass screen next to the cashier. Directly behind was a diligent worker fixing up my sandwich. I love the idea of being able to see the sandwich being made in front of me. I could have timed the man, from picking up the buns to placing the packaged sandwich on the counter, and I swear my clock app would have said somewhere between 45 - 60 seconds. I’m impressed with the quality of worker training that goes on in Jimmy John’s.

Upon walking in, I was greeted with chill vibes from the front cashier. He took my order with ease and was hella polite. All of the workers, that I’ve seen, have been top-notch when it comes to providing good vibes and making the customer feel right. After placing my order, the worker asked me how old I was and if I had a job. I didn’t tell him anything because I was sketched out, but it turned out that he liked my “aura” and that he wanted to see if I could apply to work with him. I’m still laughing as I write this. I went on by telling him that I’m a junior at champe, but that I’m not looking for a job. I was shocked. All I’m saying is that the worker interaction is literally out of this world.

Furthermore, the workers are completely different from any other sandwich shop like Subway or Jersey Mikes.

I’d say about 75% of the workers there either vape, wear snapbacks, or own a fully modded out 1993 honda civic. They are so relaxed and will literally do anything asked of them. Now although their actions and morals are wack, I really lean towards the atmosphere that they create as workers.

The ambiance of the whole restaurant is beautifully crafted to provide light-hearted laughs left and right.

When I say left and right I mean it literally.

The walls of the small Jimmy John’s are PACKED with slick, clever posters and signs. The signs vary in size and humor. They completely changed my whole experience. While eating, I tilted my head to make a 90-degree angle with my neck and I saw that on the walls they have signs showing random facts about how their sandwiches are the best in the world. The best part was when I checked out the bathroom. Filled with fluorescent red, the men's bathroom was packed with different signs asking what type of bathroom user you are.

I thought it was hilarious when I tried to do the “creative and rebel pee” technique (zigzag into the toilet).

Everything about Jimmy John’s calls for a fun time that takes our mind off of things. Not only is the food above par, the service and ambiance are also substantially good. I’ve been there a lot in my years. And every time that I’ve been there, I receive a shockingly quick sandwich that tastes nothing short of Jesus's left toenail (which of course tastes good).
