This module, the Science department ran our first trip to the Natural History Museum. 120 year 8 students visited on the 28th June and 90 year 9 students visited on the 15th July. Our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour throughout the trip and showed great engagement with the galleries in the museum which expanded their understanding and knowledge of the Science within our natural world.
Students visited many galleries including: dinosaurs, mammals, from the beginning, creepy crawlies, the wildlife garden and human evolution. Our trip to the museum allowed our students to grow their MYP learner attributes of being reflective, knowledgeable and balanced, as well as supporting the content learned in lessons this year such as: adaptation, multicellular organisms, molecular compounds and natural selection.
Our students also participated in a photo taking competition - the results of which you can see on this page. We’re excited for further opportunities next year for more science trips and a big thank you to all the staff at LAB for helping to support this trip.
Taya in year 9 reported on the day, you can find her intriguing account below.
Miss Evans
“First we were in the coach. It was cold, loud and busy. It was like we were packed like sardines. On the hour long ride, we talked, listened to music and played games. Some people even slept to avoid small talk.
On the streets it was busy with tourists. In a way, we were tourists too. We walked around from the beginning of the exhibition. There were fossils, giant bones, maps of the world before life and a timeline of the world through the ages. There was even an ostrich skeleton! Once we were finished, we climbed a great climb up the stairs. We were in the earthquake section next. There were models of the earth and the exhibit was almost as packed as our coach on the way.
We went to the rock exhibit and looked at how the environment affects rocks and the evolution of rocks. The amount of stairs in the museum was excessive. And once again we climbed the great climb through the museum.
We entered the dinosaur exhibition and we saw a massive dinosaur. I don’t know which one it was. We got lost in the dinosaur section. Kevin was excited about the moving t-rex. I was excited about the t-Rex. It was very cool. And very life-like.
“It is a very enjoyable experience, but it is very packed” says Teddy, 9E. Once we were back on our way, we reached the gemstone collection and stared at the shining gems.
