Over the past school year, there has been an amazing amount of events and achievements that deserve to be highlighted. This includes things that have happened since the last newsletter but also a reminder of what has been achieved throughout the year.
It has been excellent working with students and parents when my role started as acting Head of Sancho College at the end of December earlier in the Academic year. I am pleased to say that I will now be substantive Head of Sancho College. I am excited to continue to work with the college team and all stakeholders within the college.
Sancho student achievements
Over the course of this challenging year, the overall attendance of the college has been still well above National average and improving week by week, but we still strive to ensure it is back to pre-Covid levels due to the impact on student progress.
I’m pleased to say that in Sancho college there are 9 pupils that have had 100% attendance across this Academic year and 128 pupils have exceeded 95% attendance.
The tutor groups this year that have had the highest attendance are
Year 7 = 7E
Year 8 = 8E
Year 9 = 9B
Year 10 = 10B
Alongside this, we have celebrated pupils' amazing achievement and accumulated a large number of merits for showing the LAB values without prompt. Within each tutor group there has been exception work done by students to be awarded this high number of merits and below is the pupil that received this most across the Academic year
7B = Sriya P
7E = Jackson W
8B = Shekinah K
8E = Pratik L
9B = Ethan R
9E = Larry G
10B = Dominik J.S
10E = Ruby A
Sancho Celebration Pizza Party
On Friday 15/07/22, 15 students with the most merits in each tutor group since Module 4 were awarded for their efforts with a pizza party in Sancho playground. Although some pupils could not attend due to the Natural History Museum trip, it was still a brilliant way to end the year to celebrate the achievement of these students.
Leigh Academies Trust Sports Day
Recently a selection of students took part in the Leigh Academies Trust Sports Day; for which all Secondary Academies sent representatives to take part in various track and field events. I am pleased to say that a number of Sancho students took part to help the all girl teams win overall. Well done girls, you smashed it!
LAB Matilda Production
At the end of the year, you may have been lucky enough to watch the Academy production of Matilda. Again, there was a selection of Sancho students that helped to make it a huge success (Y10: Ethan R, Vincent H, Zahara J-A, Y9: Ellieanne S, Damien D-R, Y8: Jayah G, Phoebe H, Y7: Oisin F and Nyashanti K, in Y7). I would like to thank them for their dedication in rehearsals and show nights.
Sancho College Team
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the college team and tutors for the pastoral support they have offered students throughout the year. Their collaboration with parents has meant that students are able to access the pastoral support they need to flourish in lessons.
Finally, I would like to thank all parent(s)/carer(s) for their support in helping pupils be ready to learn while at the Academy and look forward to the next Academic year (returning on Friday 2nd September for all students). It is a perfect opportunity to remind you of the Academy expectation on uniform and equipment for the fresh start in September. Please find the website link here.
We hope you have a restful Summer and look forward to seeing your child in September.
Mr Ritchie & the Sancho team.
I have previously worked as an online physics tutor teaching students from year 7-13 including GCSE and A-Level classes, this was during my time studying at university. I found that I enjoyed teaching a lot more than my degree at the time, which set me on the path to becoming a teacher. My passion lies within mathematics and the sciences, which I have over the last 4 years acquired my Master’s in Engineering qualification. I am looking forward to sharing this passion with the students at LAB.
Jaber Kabiri
I have previously worked as a Literacy Coordinator, which I enjoyed and really opened my eyes to my passion for providing literacy and English skills for all. Since then, I have trained and worked as an English teacher in two London schools where I was able to share my joy for literature with students and see them thrive at both GCSE and A Level. A main passion of mine at university was applying Feminist and Post-Colonial theories to texts, and I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge on these topics through LAB's amazing and inclusive English curriculum. One of my favourite parts of being a teacher has been being a form tutor; I can't wait to meet my new form and support them pastorally too. I’m excited to start this new chapter of my life with LAB in September and I'm eager to see what the future holds for me here!
Alice Rendall
Hi everyone! Hope you are well.
I have previously worked in the industry from real estate/property to recruitment - yes, both were great experiences but I never truly felt I was making the impact or change that I wanted to. I see teaching as one of the pillars of society and being an important agent of change - helping to shape our future leaders in the most positive and caring way possible. From my experiences from work and academia, I have learnt a great deal about motivation and innovation, which I believe are important to delivering first class teaching and developing valuable members of our society. I hope you are all passionate about learning new things about Business, because I am VERY passionate about teaching it… as you will soon find out. This will be an amazing year, looking forward to meeting you all and working at LAB!
