Here is some of the work produced from our Year 10 virtual work experience. The students choose from four different job sectors: hospitality and events management, business and finance, engineering and STEM and creative arts and design. Each job sector held an enterprise challenge for our students to complete in groups. Each group was tested on their problem solving, communication and teamwork skills.
Over the two days, our students created some incredible work with the help of some advice from speakers within each job sector. The two days culminated in students presenting their projects to their peers. The projects included:
Business and Finance: Design an eco friendly product for 15-16 year olds;
Engineering and STEM: Design a rollercoaster with a USP;
Hospitality and Events Management: Plan a product launch event and present a range of canapes;
Creative Arts and Design: Curate an exhibition and product art work around the theme ‘world of work’.
During Module 4, we held our first Pathways Day. This allowed our year 10 students the opportunity to be exposed to the different pathways available after KS5. We had workshops exploring apprenticeships, speakers from Pathways CTM (focusing on students completing a personality strengths analysis to explore which career opportunities would suit them best) as well as speakers from Ravensbourne University (who were explaining the application process and giving some insight into university life).
Students were encouraged to wear business attire to mirror the ethos of the day and engaged in reflective tasks about their future. It was amazing to see students looking professional and taking their next steps seriously.
Our KS3 cohort, celebrated national careers week by researching a variety of careers and updating their interests and potential future pursuits on Unifrog. They also took part in a virtual careers fair to explore roles within a variety of sectors and employers such as HSBC, the NHS and more.
Our students have been so lucky to experience talks from a huge range of speakers this year, some of which have included our LAB parents, who have shared their experiences of the working world and inspired our students to think about their own futures. We are very fortunate to finally be able to invite them in and we are so grateful for their contributions to our careers programme at LAB.
