We held our summer exhibition between 12th-15th July. We displayed some of the fantastic work produced by our students across all year groups. Parents and carers were invited for a private viewing on Tuesday 12th July. We displayed projects across all disciplines within Design including: Product Design, Computing, Food, Graphics and Textiles.
With the performing arts show of Matilda taking place, our year 9 DT Food students helped make mouthwatering chocolate brownies for all our guests as well as chocolate milkshakes and other refreshments.
During module 3, careers week allowed the students to engage in a variety of activities: exploring a myriad of careers within Design and Technology. We had virtual speakers, including: a local architect, graphic designer and the owner of a swimming cap business (as well as one of our LAB parents). Our students immensely enjoyed interviewing each of our visitors to find out more about what it is like to work in the design industry.
Throughout the year, we have run a variety of clubs including Food club, Textiles club and STEAM club. Students were given the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the subject area and use the workshops and DT rooms to manufacture an array of different products, from tote bags to robots.
Students have continued to make an array of delicious dishes in their food lessons! Students have used a variety of skills to help make both savoury and sweet dishes while learning about seasonal foods and food miles. This module, students learned about the different macro-nutrient groups and designed dishes based on each of the groups; below are some images of carbohydrate based foods.
Our girls club has been a hit this year and has really instilled a love of learning coding in our students. The interest in the girls club has been growing since the start and more and more girls are getting involved. During our busy afternoon lunchtimes, the girls have been building robots using Lego. Our students feel a huge sense of accomplishment and have been very successful in coding their robots to move according to their instructions. The club will definitely continue in the new year.
The ‘girls into coding club’ took full responsibility for making and showcasing their robots at the fair which was a great hit with parents who were reeled in to try and experiment with the robots.
