GCSE PE Rock Climbing
A requirement of the GCSE PE course is that all pupils must demonstrate physical competence in three sporting disciplines. Our Year 10 cohort undertook a three-day rock climbing course at the Reach Climbing Centre. This allowed them to develop skills such as rope work, progressive climbing and overhang climbing (all of which form a part of an overall grade that contributes towards their final GCSE grade).
Our pupils applied themselves fully and this meant the grades they were awarded were very well received; contributing towards the practical element of the GCSE course.
A huge well done to Fawcett College, who were the overall winners this year. All pupils, regardless of college, took part with enthusiasm and were a credit to themselves.
Additionally, a huge ‘thank you’ goes out to our PE Ambassadors, who single-handedly organised and led our sports festival this year.
Our PE Ambassador Programme is in full swing and a select group of pupils have been recognised for their ongoing commitment and passion towards their PE lessons and within the co-curricular setting; they have gone above and beyond our expectations of them and continue to live and breathe our LAB Values.
As a PE Ambassador, there will be a variety of roles and responsibilities which the status entails. To date, these include:
Assisting with the set up and running of co-curricular sports clubs;
Leading lunchtime clubs;
Assisting with the summer Sports Festival;
Assisting with our primary school transition days;
Continuing to set an outstanding example in the academy, and within the local community;
Being a role model for others to aspire towards.
A huge ‘well done’ to our PE Ambassador who are listed below. You are a credit to the academy and we look forward to working with you in the years to come!
A huge congratulations to all of our athletes, for participating in the LAT sports day this year.
I am delighted to say that LAB’s female team were OVERALL WINNERS, with pupils from years 7 to 10 representing the school with pride. We are extremely proud of their successes and we will look to build on this by retaining the trophy next year!
A special shout out to Agnes in Year 9, who won the ‘Outstanding Athlete’ award. Agnes won all three of her events and demonstrated sportsmanship throughout; congratulating her competitors and ensuring a fellow pupil was not hurt.
Summer holidays
We continue to encourage all pupils to be physically active each and every day in a way that suits them. Whether this be by creating their own workout, taking part in a sport, or simply going for a walk around their neighbourhood, pupils should ensure that they have regular periods away from the screen to move and ensure the length of sedentary time is shortened.
