Whether you are escaping a dark past, seeking adventure, or pursuing riches and power on an ungoverned world you have come to New Paradiso; a quaint colony on the edge of the galaxy.
The planet you find yourself on is harsh and rugged; wracked with radiation storms and mutated creatures. However, it is also blessed with some of the most valuable mineral resources in the known galaxy, available only on Frontier planets like this one. Life here isn't as cushy as you may have been used to on Core Planets, but the corporations have spared no expense to make it liveable here.
As the only known source of the Genesis Molecule, New Paradiso is the nexus of all galactic conflict.
It is the key to long lost Highborne technology such as unlimited teleportation and advanced energy weapons. Harvesting Genesis Molecules cannot be done by normal machinery which is why the corporations have invested billions to send you.
They are the massive companies that control industry and commerce across the entire galaxy. They are vying for your business and support, and their concern for your safety is as deep as your pocketbook.
ESSA (Earth Space-Science Association) - Advanced tech like the radiation shield and the Recombinator, “Recom” for short, comes from ESSA. My history teacher said they used to be a research organization, but they went into private trade centuries ago. Remember the old Robby robotic assistants? They invented that.
MG (Millennium Global) - All of your tools, guns and industrial stuff comes from MG. The longest continuously running company in history, they were established in the 1800s in Australia. Funny name; I guess they kept it from back when Old Earth was still relevant.
SpaceTech - Mixes, relaxation, and entertainment devices are the major focus of SpaceTech. They pioneered space tourism back in the 21st century. The few amenities we do have, like those hard as granite stowaway beds and the bunkers we use to weather the month-long storms, come from SpaceTech. Yeah, they can afford massive pleasure domes for themselves, but they can't spare a few anti-grav beds?
Mercy Corp - The bleeding edge of medical research and technology. Chances are your doctor still has a training repayment plan with one of Mercy Corp’s training centers. Another random fact is Mercy Corp considers capitalism and commerce as a sort of religion. The first half of their Medical Ethics class focuses on charging for services.
Let's see, what else... Aw, heck, those crows are after my ammo again! Here, just read this pamphlet:
Indoctrination Pamphlet R28 - March 31st, 2824
New Paradiso is currently in contested space between the Intergalactic Council of Planets and the Free Colonies Coalition. Rather recently (early 2824) the colonists signed their support on the side of the FCC.
Don’t worry - the corporations prohibit outright war in the area. There is no need to panic, nor alter your spending habits. In fact, why not treat yourself? You’ve earned it.
As far as local government, settlers are free to form their own governing system and appoint some entity whether it be an individual, like a mayor, or a congress to maintain the peace and be a contact point for foreign affairs.
For those who have grown up on primarily Human planets, it is important to know the different alien species you may encounter. (If you are a member of a non-human species we apologize for any inaccuracies or misrepresentations; unless you are Muk’taa in which case go Q’pah yourself).
Augmented - Cybernetically enhanced humanoids who believe in technological evolution. They can originate from any species.
Highborne - Followers of the principles of biological transhumanism. Erudite, contemplative, sometimes distant. Fond of masks.
Hybrids - Origin unknown. Humanoids with animalistic features and behaviors. Popular subjects of cartoon illustrations for unclear reasons.
Muk’taa - Fond of war, they seek the glory of battle, and have a strict set of codes they live by. NEVER APOLOGIZE TO A MUK’TAA! Apologies are considered a sign of great disrespect in their culture.
Pisceans - Aquatic people from an ocean planet called Poseidon II. That's not what they call their planet, but humans cannot pronounce the Piscean name. They are cunning and ambitious seekers of opportunity. Whether you are fighting or dealing, put up a strong front. If you show weakness, they will take advantage.
No matter your job you will have some kind of encounter with the Recom. It is located in the Assayer’s Office. Raw crystals, engineered contraptions, mixes, and harvestables all come to the Recom for processing. Feel free to direct any questions to your friendly Assayer Bot who can help you with virtually any aspect of Frontier life.
We wish you the very best. Welcome to New Paradiso!
