If you wish to use an email client software that doesn’t support OAuth or add another sender address to your account, you have to authenticate with an App Password.
To create an App Password, you must set up 2-Step Verification for your G Suite account, which requires you to sign in to your account with one-time password in addition to your SPS-ID password. After you enable 2-Step Verification, you can create an App Password to set up IMAP/POP/SMTP settings.
When you enable 2-Step Verification:
You will need a smartphone to set up.
You will no longer be able to sign in with your G Suite local password.
You will still use multi-factor authentication provided by IIMC to log in to G Suite, instead of 2-Step Verification which Google offers.
It may take about 24 hours for the process to complete. If you have a problem setting up 2-Step Verification, try again later.
If you wish to use an App Password, follow the steps below:
1. Enable 2-Step Verification
2. Create an App Password
Log in to KUMail. On the top right, click on your icon and select Manage your Google Account.
2. On the menu on the left, click Security.
3. Click 2-Step Verification.
4. Click GET STARTED.
5. Enter your phone number. Under How do you want to get codes?, choose Text message when you have a cellular phone with ability to receive SMS messages. If your phone isn’t SMS capable, choose Phone call.
6. You will receive a SMS message from Google that says “G-XXXXXX is your Google verification code.” (XXXXXX is a 6-digit number.) If you chose to get a phone call, you will receive an automated phone call from Google.
Enter the code and click NEXT.
7. Click TURN ON.
8. 2-Step Verification has successfully been enabled for your account. Now, go on to the next step.
1. Click 2-Step Verification.
2. Click '>'.
3. Enter the App name and click 'Create'.
Note:
The 'App name' is for identifying the purpose of the password you issued in the 'App password' field. The name is arbitrary.
In this manual, we will use 'KUMail'.
4. The string displayed in Generated app password is the app password.
Note:
Do not close this screen until you have finished setting up your email software, etc.
Just like your normal password, this app password grants complete access to your Google Account. You won't need to remember it, so don't write it down or share it with anyone.
You can create multiple app passwords. If you are setting up a different device or have forgotten a password, please create a new one using the same steps. You can also use One password for multiple setups.
Note:
If the setup is not successful, please check the 'Security alert' email you received from Google immediately after setting up the Google app password.
Please check the contents and if there is no problem, approve it.
