Note: These steps are required even when you use an email client (and don't use the web version of Gmail).

If you'd like to send messages from another address you own, like a secondary group address (***@mail2.kyoto-u.ac.jp) or a departmental address, first you need to add it to the Gmail settings.

Before you start...

1. Open KUMail (Gmail) on your browser.

On the top right, click Settings (gear icon) > See all settings.

2. Go to the Accounts tab.

3. In the Send mail as section, click Add another email address.

4. Another window will pop up.

Enter your name and email address as shown to others. For example,

Name: ABC section, DEF department

Email address: ***@mail2.adm.kyoto-u.ac.jp

Click Next Step.

5. Now you'll need to verify that you own the email address you entered.

6-a. If the address you entered is a secondary group (***@mail2.adm.kyoto-u.ac.jp), the window in the image on the right will appear.

Click Send Verification, and a verification email will be sent to the address.

Hint: Since all the members of the group will receive the confirmation email, it's a good idea to the member know about it in advance as they may think it's spam.

6-b. If the address you entered is a departmental email address or a free email address, the window in the image on the right will appear.

Enter the information of your SMTP server.

Hint: If your department has its own mail server, ask the admin for these information. If there's no departmental mail server, go to our IMAP/SMTP settings page (limited on-campus) to learn what to type in.

7. The following confirmation e-mail will be sent to the address you wish to set up.

8. confirm that the contents of the email are the settings you are trying to make, and click the link provided. If you do not recognize the email, do not click on the link.

9. Press "Confirm" when the confirmation screen appears.

10. Your address has been added to your Gmail account. If you want to use the new address by default, click make default on the right.

*If you wish to set up the change of sender in your e-mail software, please complete the above settings and then make the following settings.
