I created a "Dear Struggling Student" message that would be sent as an email.
My Struggling Student Outreach Message shows a Level 2: Insight mastery level of the D4 NSQ standard. My example shows that I know how to write an email. I think communicating with empathy, humor and understanding are skills I have. But I do not think I could implement this type of communication on my own. I worry about saying the wrong thing, or being unclear and having the opposite effect of what I intend.
Also, in a real-life scenario, I'm unsure when a message like this would be indicated. How is this type of communication received by students? Is it even appropriate to let students turn in late work anytime? Does this seem unfair to other students that try hard to meet deadlines?
Without teacher training, I can't fully understand how to measure and monitor student progress. I assume this is how I would determine when a message like my example would be sent. Overall, while I am experienced in the mechanics of sincere and clear communication, the teacher-student communication is what I need more experience with.
