My 8th grade student was very frustrated by distance learning on Zoom and Google Classrooms. As a scaffold, I created this personalized daily schedule.
This project demonstrates a Level 3: Implementation mastery of the D6 NSQ standard. To support my struggling student, I used my experience with Google Docs and time management to create a daily schedule with all the necessary information and resources needed each day. The schedule included a weekly schedule of classes, all Zoom links and passwords, and links to lessons and homework in Google Classroom. We used it in conjunction with calendar alarms, verbal prompts, frequent check-ins, and one-on-one Zoom tech support with our resident IT support (me). I would open it on the Chromebook each morning, and posted a weekly printout in the students workspace.
As my student got used to remote learning, I was able to scale back the supports. By the end of the year, the student was able to open the daily schedule, navigate into Zoom classes at the right times, and access assignments independently with little assistance from me.
I set it up in Google Docs as a template so that I could easily update and revise it weekly. There were many iterations as teachers refined their processes. I adapted the schedule to the students preferences as they gained more independence and let me know what worked or not.
I have been using Google Docs for years, so I felt very adept at creating a schedule document template that would be attractive and useful for the student, and easy to maintain and revise for myself.
