My kids attended a parent-participation charter school, where I volunteered to teach electives in Video Production, E-textiles, Sewing, and Sketching. Below are examples of three lesson plans I used for the Sketching elective. These classes were pre-Covid and were all taught in person, but could be easily adjusted for online learning.
My Lesson Plans demonstrate a Level 2: Insight mastery of the D5 NSQ standard. I used a template to create them, I don't think I could have created them on my own. I'm still learning about instruction, especially how to engage students. This was the second class I ever taught as a volunteer parent, with no training and little guidance. Fortunately, since I was a volunteer, and this was an elective class, I did not have to worry about meeting any educational standards as teachers do.
I think I'm good at curating quality lessons and materials to use in class. I also have some subject matter knowledge as I studied art and still practice sketching regularly. But taking a fun art project and turning it into a clear lesson that keeps students engaged is very challenging.
I was able to use a variety of formats for the instruction, ranging from live demonstrations, handouts, and books that I brought in to share. If there had been more planning time, and more resources available, I might have added in some video lessons, viewed on an iPad, to expose them to even more techniques.
