We recommend that ASEAN member states:
Endorse the need to phase out fossil fuels, based on fair share and equity, with just energy transition.
Institutionalising meaningful and inclusive stakeholder engagement on sustainability issues, especially with women, youth and indigenous peoples.
Prioritising energy efficiency and appliance efficiency to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Be vigilant against false solutions promoted as technological fixes, such as carbon, capture and storage, nuclear and hydrogen.
Mainstreaming discussion on environmental and climate impacts in all ASEAN meetings.
Recognising the principle of degrowth based on fair share and equity to live well within the ecological limits of one planet.
