We recommend that ASEAN member states:

1. Increase capacity to use and contest power effectively in a fair democratic space.

2. Empower ASEAN citizens in cultivating and polishing stances on political rights and governance.

3. Have a pipeline for future reformers, empowering progressive leadership to influence ASEAN’s democratic and governance landscape.

4. Build a more open and democratic ASEAN in the future by ensuring an effective democratisation process in all ASEAN countries.

5. Harmonising democratic principles with local wisdom among ASEAN countries that are rich in the characteristics of justice, inclusivity and openness.
