We recommend that ASEAN member states:
Advocate for a human rights-based approach in energy transition, and respect Indigenous Peoples' right to Free Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) in any renewable energy-related project, including critical mineral mining for energy transition.
Foster an inclusive process in sustainable development, considering the Indigenous communities' unique needs and situation. Development can be based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Support community-led solutions recognising the traditional wisdom of Indigenous Peoples in resource management and allow the Indigenous Peoples to care for their respective territories.
Establish a dedicated tribunal to look at human rights violations and provide protection for Indigenous human rights defenders.
