We recommend that ASEAN member states:
Uphold the legitimate needs of consumers. This includes access to essential needs2 such as food and energy, and protection from harm.
Make sustainable and healthy choices more accessible and affordable for all, shifting the onus of responsibility away from individuals.
Ensure consumer voices are heard at all levels of governance, as well as by businesses, with a focus on including and protecting vulnerable and low-income consumers.
Recognise that pathways to a sustainable lifestyle vary across contexts. A one-shoe-fits-all approach may not be feasible as local priorities and challenges shape unique approaches.
