Beste milestone

Beste milestone is a 17th century road construction and equipment monument. Number “1686” and inscription “14M” is carved, which represents year when the stone was set up and distance to Rīga in Swedish miles. Judging by the maps of the 17th century, these kind of stones might have been set up in every mile on Swedish post roads. Beste milestone is the only known exemplar nowadays.
