This week in Year 5...

It’s been another busy and exciting week in Year 5!

One of the highlights of the week was our Charity Day in support of the wonderful charity Sophie’s Legacy. The children took part in a range of activities, including using an exercise bike, completing fitness circuits, and running laps of the playground to build up miles for their virtual marathon. It was lovely to see the children showing such stamina, resilience, and teamwork while supporting such a meaningful cause.

In Reading, the children have continued to enjoy The Firework-Maker’s Daughter. They have been developing their inference skills, thinking carefully about what the author shows us and what is implied rather than directly stated. This has helped to deepen their understanding of the text.

During Maths, the children have continued working on division using the formal ‘bus stop’ method. They have been applying their times table knowledge to solve increasingly challenging problems and have shown great perseverance.

In Geography, the children have been learning about how different types of valleys are formed, exploring the processes that shape our physical landscape.

We finished the week with a very exciting trip to the Winchester Science Museum. The children took part in discovery workshops, explored interactive exhibits, and enjoyed an out-of-this-world planetarium show, which was a fantastic way to end the week.

The final groups of children were due to take part in their Bikeability sessions; however, these were unfortunately postponed due to the weather. We look forward to rescheduling soon so pupils can continue building their confidence and cycling skills.

Overall, it has been a wonderful week full of learning, resilience, and memorable experiences in Year 5!
