What I'm From
I am from the balls of shedded dog fur,
From fondue-eating and animal-loving.
From the dark brown building that sits in the middle of the woods,
And the lavender pine smell flowing within.
I am from the bittersweet peach trees
And the giant oak whose long limbs I remember as if they were my own;
From the rays of sun that shine through the woods,
And from the itchy mosquito bites.
I am from watching America’s Got Talent and Harry Potter-loving,
From the worried Mom, hardworking Dad and smart brother.
I am from biting nails and overthinking,
And from generations of golden blonde hair.
I am from “Do Your Best!” and “Be Happy!”
And “Sleepy Time in the Jungle”.
I’m from Disney trips every other year,
And the Lake Compounce roller coasters.
I’m from Yale-New Haven Hospital and the German and Swiss,
From aged fondue and juicy filet mignon.
From The Bike Accident That Scared All,
And the world-traveling parents.
I am from hard working and loving.
