Where I'm From

I am from mac n' cheese and hot dogs,

from free munchkins at 12'o clock,

huge family parties filled with raspy voices,

and snapping turtles in the backyard.

I am from going sledding with the whole neighborhood on snow days,

from the midnight train that wakes all the visitors,

And Papa Gino's on a Friday after school.

I am from the air quality that is noticeably heavy,

and mini hockey games that don't end.

I am from going to the mall to not buy anything,

And from homemade meatballs--once a year--on Christmas.

I am from climbing every tree,

and Locos Tacos takeout, right around the corner,

I am from the evolution of a late pickup to taking the school bus home.

I am from the front lawn full of ditched bikes.

I am from Shepard Road.

I am from Braintree, Massachusetts.
