I am from open-wheel race cars,

Where family works on them together.

I am from a family that competes on both mountains and roads.

From the burning rubber smell that changes the atmosphere,

To the acrid stench of wax melting on my skis.

I am from the race tracks and the gearheads

And dinners at speedways

To loud cars that tear the ear drums

And playing with used tires.

I am from helping to change old parts to new.

I’m from your mind being your biggest influencer

To learning to do things the hard way.

From watching Grandfather and Uncle get into fights about who caused a crash,

To seeing them both being taken away in ambulances.

From the early mornings at home

To arriving at racetracks and seeing the huge towering signs.

I am from the lessons I have learned,

To the knowledge I have earned.
