All staff should be trained in what to look out for in order to prevent Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Make sure team members complete their Flow Module promptly and do regular refreshers and knowledge checks to ensure teams are vigilant and comfortable with the reporting process.
What to Look Out For
Someone that appears to be under the control of others
Evidence of drug use
Requests for rooms near fire escapes and on the ground floor
Hotel misuse e.g. overcrowded rooms
Excessive bottles of alcohol
Overflowing bins containing items for sexual activity/ drug use
Stern adults accompanying fearful young people
What To Do
Witness - Collect info
Observe - Observe and notify the Duty Manager
Manage - Duty Manager to invoke the incident procedure
Follow - DM to check up with the person that reported
Inform - Follow crisis management procedure if necessary
Never confront anyone you believe to be the victim or perpetrator of Modern Slavery or Human Trafficking as this could endanger both you and the victim. If a team member approaches you with suspicions, report it immediately to your AGM and DOO who will advise you on how to proceed. If you feel anyone is in imminent physical danger at any point, phone 999.
