Within the Portrait of an Educator (POE) model, Learning Target Sets serve as a differentiated focused entry point for new and newly arrived educators to engage with the district’s professional competencies in a manageable and structured way. Each Learning Target Set includes a curated selection of learning targets drawn from the district’s three core competencies, allowing new educators to concentrate their demonstration of proficiency and needs for professional growth on key areas of effective practice over time.
The purpose of these sets is to:
Prioritize foundational skills and expectations for effective teaching in KRSD
Provide clarity and focus for self-reflection, goal setting, and evidence collection
Support alignment with the district’s professional growth cycle and NH re-licensure timelines
Establish a scaffolded path toward deeper proficiency and confidence in core teaching practices
By engaging with Learning Target Sets, new and newly arrived educators to the district or profession are supported by administrators and mentors in building a strong, reflective, and impactful foundation for long-term professional success.
Over a five year period of time, educators self-reflect, set goals for leanring, and demonstrate proficency with each of the learning targets in order to obtain tenure, and progress into independent goal selction afforded to vetern and tenured educators.
In Year One: Learning Target Set 1 is the focus area for the educator.
In year Two: Learning Target Set 2 and any Learning Target Set 1 targets that are "developing" become the focus of goal setting.
In Year Three-Five: Learning Target Set 3 and any Learning Target Set 1 or 2 targets that are "developing" become the focus of goal setting.
In Year Four: Tenure is advanced to those educators who qualify and who have demonstrated "Applying" level proficency in all learning targets.
In Year Five: Tenure is advanced to all educators who meet the "Applying" level of proficiency in all learning targets.
