Within the Portrait of an Educator (POE) model, educators are empowered to self-select professional learning resources and activities that directly support their SMART goals and targeted areas of growth. Following self-reflection and goal setting, educators choose from a broad menu of options to build proficiency in the district’s defined competencies and learning targets.
Examples of self-selected actions and activities educators might use to meet their goals include but are not limited to:
Engaging in action research to test and evaluate new instructional strategies in the classroom
Participating in peer observations, followed by reflection and application of observed practices
Attending workshops or conferences focused on curriculum development, inclusive practices, or assessment strategies
Enrolling in college coursework related to pedagogy, content knowledge, or leadership development
Collaborating in study groups to explore professional texts or instructional approaches
Creating or revising curriculum or assessment tools in alignment with district goals
Serving on school or district committees to contribute to systemic improvement
Receiving or providing mentoring or coaching to support professional growth
Utilizing student learning data to analyze instructional impact and refine practices
The professional learning world is full of opportunities for KRSD educators! Our POE's flexible approach ensures that our educator's professional learning is relevant, personalized, and impactful, allowing educators to engage in activities that are meaningful to their context while aligning with district expectations for high-quality teaching and learning.
