M-STEP Overview
The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) is the mandatory state assessment given to students in grades 3-8 and 11 each spring.
Students take the following portions of the M-STEP Assessment:
M-STEP Reading - grades 3-7
M-STEP Mathematics - grades 3-7
M-STEP Science and Social Studies - grades 5, 8, and 11
Students in grades 8 and 11 also take College Board college readiness assessments as required for state accountability. Some students with disabilities take the MI-Access test instead of the M-STEP.
Teacher Access:
Teachers are not able to access test materials. Building test coordinators will provide teachers with assessment materials (test tickets) for students. Teachers are able to access online practice tests for review and to help prepare students for testing.
Student Access:
Students must access the testing portal using the DRC Lockdown Browser in the apps tab on their Chromebook. To find this tab, they must be completely logged out of their device. The apps tab will then be in the bottom left.
This app will not launch for students if they are outside of the school building. Students may not test at home.
Parent Access:
Parents are not able to access the M-STEP system in any way. Student reports are mailed to buildings each summer and should be handed out to families at fall conferences or sent home thereafter.
