NWEA MAP Growth Overview
The NWEA MAP Growth Assessments are given 3 times per year to students in grades 6-8. These nationally normed, computer adaptive assessments are used to measure current academic performance as well as student growth over time.
Teacher Access:
Teachers must have accounts in the NWEA test administration site in order to set up test sessions, proctor tests, and access reports. Teacher accounts are automatically created during our student rostering process. If you do not know your login, please use the "forgot password" option and enter your KPS email address. Follow the steps to set a new password.
Teachers must have an open test session that they are actively proctoring in order for students to access the testing portal. More instructions can be found in the links below or at the google class (Code: g6xhcnc)
Student Access:
Students must access the testing portal using the NWEA Lockdown Browser in the apps tab on their chromebook. To find this tab, they must be completely logged out of their device. The apps tab will then be in the bottom left.
This app will not launch for students if they are outside of the school building. If it is necessary to test a student at home, please contact the help desk for further assistance.
Parent Access:
Parents are not able to access the NWEA system in any way. Family reports should be generated by teachers and provided to parents after each testing cycle.

Follow the MAP Proctor Tips and Troubleshooting guide for administering the MAP tests
Tests must be given during the window specified on the KPS Assessment Calendar.
Students may only take each test once during the testing window. If a student becomes ill or is rushing through the test, stop the test immediately. When the student goes back in to complete the test, you can choose to have them resume the test. Tests that are not resumed within 2-4 weeks are automatically deleted. All requests to have students retest must be approved by the principal. Not all requests will be approved.
Encourage students to do their best work. All data are used to make important instructional decisions about students, including appropriate access to interventions. Students must be provided with appropriate time and space to demonstrate their knowledge. Students should be spending roughly the same time testing each window.
Reduce test anxiety and stress. Students should be told that data are used to help them learn, not to punish or penalize anyone. Students should know that they will see some easy questions and some difficult questions. (The test is designed for students to get half of the questions correct and half incorrect.) Examples of problems should be shown and, whenever possible, students should be given the opportunity to take the sample tests (this is critical for students testing for the first time). MAP scores MAY NOT influence student grades in any way.
MAP Growth K-2. Students in higher grades must be designated to take the MI-Access test (rather than M-STEP) in order to be given the MAP K-2 Reading test. This test should only be administered by a special education teacher and is usually given during alternate testing weeks.
Provide fair and equitable assistance. Accommodations are allowed as written in a student’s IEP or 504 plan. If students do not receive the accommodation as part of regular classroom instruction, it should not be provided in the testing environment. Adults can assist students with technology manipulation or staying on task, but adults may not define words or lead students to a particular answer. Make sure other adults assisting with testing know proctoring rules.
Reduce testing time by planning ahead. Be sure to set up your test sessions in advance, assign the correct test to students, and save the session using a user-friendly name. Do not just use the “test my class” option 2 minutes before starting your session as this may not give you enough time to troubleshoot roster issues or make sure that students are all taking the correct test.
Maintain accurate records. Keep a running record of which students have completed testing so that students do not get frustrated by not being able to log in to test due to having already finished. Communicate with other adults who may be testing students in a different setting.
Active proctoring will ensure accurate data to inform instruction!
You can find a list of students who have not completed testing by going to Manage Test Sessions, Find Students to Test, Test History Search and then checking the box for not yet tested.
If a student is missing from your roster, it must be corrected in PowerSchool. Students must be assigned to your course first and then NWEA will then update within 24 hours.
