State Assessments Overview
M-STEP:
This is the Michigan test for students in grades 3-8, and 11. It is given in the spring (April/May) of each year. It is a computer based test that students take on their chromebooks while in school buildings. It consists of Math and ELA (for grades 3-7) and Science and Social Studies (for grades 5, 8, and 11).
College Readiness Assessments:
The State of Michigan requires the PSAT tests for students in grades 8-10 and the SAT test for students in grade 11 (or 12 if not previously tested). Students in grade 11 must also take the ACT WorkKeys test. All of these tests are given within the national school day test window in April.
The PSAT NMSQT is an optional test that 11th grade students can take in October. This test must be taken for students wishing to become National Merit Scholars. Students sign up for this test in September in their school counseling office.
WIDA:
The WIDA assessment is the annual English proficiency assessment for Multilingual Learners. It is taken in Feb-March each year. Students need to take this test each year until they demonstrate proficiency on the WIDA.
New to the district Multilingual Learners must also be given the WIDA screening test within 30 days of entry. This assessment is used to determine appropriate placement and supports for students.
MI-ACCESS:
The MI-Access test is the alternative state assessments for select students with disabilities. Students take this test instead of M-STEP or PSAT/SAT tests.
