The most important theme I take away from the MSET program is the importance of being a lifelong learner. No matter your age, skillset, career, etc. there will always be room for growth and improvement. When you find what motivates and engages you, it is empowering to continue learning whether through professional development, reflection, or personal learning networks.
MSET Objectives:
be aware of professional organizations in the field of computer education and technology and their impact on the field of education
be aware of current trends and issues in computer education, distance education, electronic communications, computer hardware and software
use telecommunications-based tools to integrate information into the classroom and the curriculum
be proficient in finding, evaluating, and using current educational research to support continuous improvement in their profession
use systematic problem-solving and research-based human/computer interaction practices in the development of computer-assisted instructional programs
apply learning theory and the principles of instructional design in curricular and instructional decision-making

LT 785 Action Research Project
This project was quite challenging for me and really helped me to grow in my understanding of choosing and evaluating research. I created this action research project after determining there is a great need for parents and children to have a better understanding of online safety and cybersecurity concepts. Through this project, I was able to find a large amount of data that supports my findings. I plan to continue my efforts to spread cybersecurity awareness to all families that I work with.
LT 712 PBL Lesson
For this project based learning lesson, learners build background knowledge on what it takes to run a city. They then work through a long process to plan, design, and create their very own city. This project empowers learners and builds lifelong skills that will help them in all areas of life beyond the classroom. For me, I had to do a lot of background learning and research to determine the best elements to incorporate into the project.
CET 720 Ignite Talk
Perhaps one of my most challenging projects during the MSET program, my ignite talk was a 5 minute presentation with 20 slides automatically advancing every 15 seconds while I narrated the slides. I had to learn a lot about ignite talks before creating my own, as I did not know anything about them. I found it to be challenging to organize all the different elements into one. In the future, I would like to introduce this presentation concept to my students and other teachers in my building as I think it is a great way to innovate and improve digital presentations as we know them.
