As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), the themes and values that serve as the UN's fundamental cornerstones are still important today.
As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN), the themes and values that serve as the UN's fundamental cornerstones are still important today.
We are elated for each of the six Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asian Schools (IASAS) and our partner schools to come together for another annual IASAS Model United Nations (MUN) conference. This year's conference will be virtual, but we are confident that Chairs and delegates will bring the same spirit and passion for MUN as present in past IASAS MUN conferences.

This year's conference will be virtual, but we are confident that Chairs and delegates will bring the same spirit and passion for MUN as present in past IASAS MUN conferences.
Without a doubt, MUN serves as a microscopic example of a space where young global citizens with a concern for the greater good, who are both curious and inquisitive, can come together and work towards a better future. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres articulated: "all our hopes for a better world rest on young people." Perhaps this is true now more than ever.

2020 has indeed been a testament to our generation. In recent months and years, we have seen the power of globalization and the vital role that each of us plays in the global community as citizens of the world. It is, for this reason, that we decided on the theme of 'transcending borders.' We live in an era of interdependence where borders are merely indicators on a map. Our concern for others and solutions to transnational issues, however, have no boundaries.

Greetings, my name is Madeline Suindah, and I will be serving as your Secretary-General for IASAS MUN 2020. Every year I look forward to these three days of conducive debate and discussion surrounded by new friends and familiar faces. Since March, we have been planning this conference, so to say that I am looking forward to November 19th is an understatement. I wish we could be greeting you in person at JIS, but I am still excited to welcome you all. Despite this year's virtual format, I hope that we will simulate that same thrill of energy and excitement from past years.
