Meet the Secretariat

The Secretariat this year is comprised of five students hailing from JIS and SAS with a range of experience in MUN. The goal of the Secretariat is not only to bring about the best virtual conference possible, but to ensure that each Chair and delegate is intellectually challenged with new topics and solutions in a rigorous and supportive environment.

Secretary-General: Madeline Suindah

Honorable chairs, most esteemed delegates, dignified advisors, and distinguished guests, my name is Madeline Suindah, and I am elated to serve as the Secretary-General of IASAS MUN 2020. I am a senior at Jakarta Intercultural School, and this will be my third and final IASAS MUN conference. I have a profound passion for women's rights, and education, and served as the Deputy Chair in the Human Rights Council (UNHRC) at last year's IASAS conference. Amid today's political climate, MUN has given me hope, to believe that future generations of leaders can seize any given challenge, no matter how big or small it may be. I presume that every one of you will surmount each issue you are confronted with at this year's conference with grit and determination. When I'm not studying or procrastinating (and we're are not in the middle of a pandemic), I enjoy traveling, hanging out with my friends, practicing my calligraphy, and reading. I look forward to meeting you all very soon and am ecstatic about this year's conference. November could not come sooner. Deputy Secretary-General: Emma Wong

Welcome delegates! My name is Emma Wong and I am currently a senior at Jakarta Intercultural School. It is my honor to serve as Deputy Secretary-General of this year’s IASAS MUN conference, my fourteenth, and last conference. MUN has undoubtedly been an integral part of my life in High School and is one of my greatest passions. The worlds of MUN and debate have introduced me to such an amazing community of people that have become my closest friends. Throughout my MUN journey, I’ve definitely had my fair share of bumps along the way including a couple of bad POIs and a ton of rambling speeches, but I’ve accepted that it’s all part of the process. When I first started, I was the quiet girl in the back of the room who felt accomplished if I made one POI a day. But with each conference, my confidence has grown tremendously and, with it, my willingness to participate and lead. I hope that all of you delegates, experienced and new, will find this conference as a safe place for your voices to be heard. Outside of MUN, I absolutely love debate, writing poetry, and complaining about the IB! I am also an advocate for animal conservation. I look forward to meeting you all and having a great conference!

Deputy Secretary-General: Sara Khemani

Hey! My name is Sara Khemani and I am a junior at Singapore American School. I am honored to be able to serve you as Deputy Secretary General for IASAS MUN 2020. I first began my MUN journey in middle school, as an 8th grader, and have since had the privilege to attend close to 20 conferences. From delegating to chairing to finally being a part of the Secretariat team, MUN has helped me sharpen my public speaking and communication skills. However, the greatest benefit I have received from MUN is a passion for human rights, initiating change, and politics. In our world today where we are faced with unprecedented predicaments ranging from environmental to humanitarian, it is us who have to find solutions to these problems and overcome the same as a community. This applies more than ever to the COVID situation today. In the midst of a global pandemic, we have had to find alternative solutions to the negative impacts of the same to drive away from such adversities. One such is working around coordinating an online IASAS MUN. We hope despite this year’s conference being online, it is still a gratifying experience for all of you!

Parliamentarian: Marco Widodo

My name is Marco Widodo, I’m a junior at JIS, and I’m very excited to be serving as one of the Parliamentarians for this upcoming IASASMUN conference. My first exposure to MUN was when I joined the MUN club in our middle school three years ago; it was a completely new experience for me that inevitably sparked my passions for both international relations and debate. I’ve been an active member of the MUN community ever since, enthusiastically signing up for every conference my school partakes in that I can cram into my busy schedule. This conference will be my 6th international conference and my 8th conference in total. In my freshman year, I participated in the THIMUN 2018 conference in Singapore, the CISSMUN 2019 conference in Shanghai, and a local conference called JSCMUN. Last year, I attended the IASAS MUN 2019 conference at ISKL, the HMCA 2020 in Tokyo, and our school’s inaugural JISMUN 2020 conference. It really is unfortunate that these uncertain times amidst the COVID-19 pandemic will likely take a toll on the many aspects that make MUN conferences so life-changing. But, I hope the Secretariat team and I will be able to make this conference as memorable as my past conferences have been for me.

Parliamentarian: Mingyu Zhao

Hello! My name is Mingyu Zhao, I am a junior at Singapore American School, and I am honored to serve as the parliamentarian of IASAS 2020. My MUN journey started when I was in 7th grade. Like many others, I joined because many external factors - namely, my mother wanted me to join MUN to hone my debating skills. However, I soon fell in love with the thrilling debates of international politics in Model United Nations. With a blink of an eye, I’m here today, as an avid debater with more than 15 conferences of experience. The most brilliant part of MUN, in my opinion, is that MUN is not just a simple extracurricular - it is a process of constant failures and improvement. “Advancing Through Adversity” perfectly encapsulates the learning curve of MUN: you fail to advance. So, welcome to IASAS 2020, and I look forward to seeing you all advance through adversity in this conference!
