The question of the demilitarization of the South China Sea
The question of the territory of Kashmir
The question of the establishment of the Kurdish state
The question of Security Council action in the Golan Heights
Hello everyone! My name is Yash Mahajan and I’m in G12 (senior year) at United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA), Dover Campus, Singapore. I joined MUN in G9 with the intent to learn more about international law and governance – little did I know that one conference would turn into two then into fifteen and then turn into me being the Deputy Secretary-General of my own school’s upcoming conference! This conference will be my third and last time having the privilege of attending IASAS as a guest school member, and I couldn’t be more grateful that I’ll be the Head Chair of the Security Council in my last conference! This is my sixth time in the security council – and second as a chair – so I know what to expect and I’m extremely excited to see how debate turns out. Security Council is my favourite committee – we create resolutions for such contemporary and global issues, and the debate is always intense and well-rounded. In fact, my IB Extended Essay is on the issue of the South China Seas, so this committee was basically the perfect fit for me:) I’m looking forward to meeting all of you soon (albeit virtually)!
Salutations, Delegates! My name is Timothy Martin Romero Manaloto, or “Tim” for short. I am a senior from the International School Manila with a cheerful disposition and a deep passion for history and its implications to-date. In the words of renowned activist Martin Luther King Jr., “A genuine leader is not a searcher for a consensus, but a molder of consensus.” As Deputy Chair for this conference’s Security Council, I intend to facilitate a high caliber of debate whilst maintaining the fundamental virtues of mutual respect, security and common understanding. In essence, I strive to encourage all to be consensus “molders” rather than consensus “searchers.” I look forward to meeting and interacting with our very talented delegates sure to make this conference my most memorable yet. Overall, I strive to ensure each delegate’s perspectives, symbolic of that of entire nations, are not only expressed but also heard and seriously considered in formulating the resolutions. After all, the United Nations is a testament to the solid friendship nations hold; superseding race, religion and culture. In the same way, IASAS MUN attempts to instill this very same friendship amongst today’s youth who together will promote positive change in the future; a commendable goal that I aspire to help this conference reach.
