Hello delegates, and welcome to this year’s Sustainable Development Council! My name is Farihah Ahmed, and I will be serving as your Head Chair. I am currently a junior at the American International School of Dhaka (AISD), and this will be my 13th MUN conference. I also currently serve as the Secretary-General of OMUN (Online Model United Nations), the world’s first online MUN platform. Since the 7th grade, MUN has allowed me to develop my leadership in unparalleled ways. It has enabled me to be articulate and loud, helped me gain a deeper understanding of today’s political climate, and most importantly, it’s allowed me to understand the importance of global citizenship and sustainable development in the 21st century.
If the pandemic has shown us anything, it is the importance of strong, sustainable institutions and systems in place to combat the vast and complex issues of today’s world. I hope that as chair, I’ll be able to help all of you along in your MUN and leadership journeys, as well as help you all gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. I can’t wait to meet all of you, and best of luck in your preparation for this year’s conference! Also, if any of you are Physics or Computer Science nerds like me, I’d be happy to discuss code, string theory, or neural networks with you during breaks. :)
Hi everyone! My name is Mehek Berry and I will be serving as a deputy chair for the Sustainable Development Council. I attended the Jakarta Intercultural School for 8 years and am now currently a senior at the Taipei American School. This is my 3rd MUN conference and I am excited to continue debating transnational problems with fellow like-minded individuals despite the difficulties we face due to the on-going pandemic. Beyond MUN, I participate in activities such as badminton, speech and debate, and playing piano. I also volunteer in clubs aiding people suffering from human rights violations and write for the school’s publication. Being a part of the SDC, I hope to engage in finding solutions to issues within the increasingly globalized world we live in.
I look forward to meeting everyone and working together at the conference. See you soon :)
