Week of October 20-21

Bible: In the upcoming week students will continue their next unit on the early church and the book of Acts. Our next few lessons will be about Paul's missionary journeys and beliefs on faith vs. works.

Friendzy: Our October social/emotional/spiritual curriculum unit is "Listen Up!". This month we are teaching the students the Catchphrase LISTEN UP! In this unit we will learn about Whole Body Listening; learning to listen with our whole selves so that others feel seen, heard, and valued.  We are focusing on Deuteronomy 6:4-5:  “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” As we seek to develop our listening skills, we anchor it in Proverbs 2:2:  “Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.”

Math

Targets:

This week in math we will continue working on Chapter 4: Graphing Linear Equations. After assessing on the first half of the chapter last week, we will continue to the second half, learning about standard form and point-slope form of equations, as well as writing equations for a given graph. Students will use their knowledge about x and y intercepts and the slope formula to aid them with the new content.

Algebra

Targets: 

This week we wrap up unit 3: Functions and function notation. We will review all materials from 3.1-3.3 and 3.6-3.7, prepping for our assessment. Students should recall how transformations affect parent functions, understanding inside vs outside functions, horizontal vs vertical change, and opposite vs exactly what we think for transformations.

Language Arts 

Targets: 

This week we will continue with our unit on The Giver by Lowry. Lowry slowly reveals information to the reader, so we are making inferences about the community and its characteristics as we read. This week, we will learn more about how the role of Receiver has privileges and power, but it also requires The Recevier to greatly sacrifice for the sake of the community. We will also analyze Jonas's new realizations about himself and his community.

Homework:

• Optional vocab review activity to prepare for quiz (given on Thursday)

• None unless students are asked to finish something at home

Assessment:

• Vocab quiz on Thursday (all the words from the unit so far)

• Summative writing paragraph due by end of class time Friday (work time given on Thursday and Friday)

Science: In the upcoming week students will be assessed on their lab unit about matter particles. Then, we'll begin a new unit on particle movement, phases of matter, and physical vs. chemical changes.

Homework: Green Sheet Learning Targets (#1-3) - Due Friday, October 17

Assessments: Lab 4 and 5 Test - Tuesday, October 14.

Social Studies: We will discuss the beginning of the Revolutionary War and how the Patriots did not perform very well early on.  We will also finish reading the Declaration of Independence and King George's response to American independence.  

Assignments: None unless work is not finished in class.

Assessments: Short quiz on taxes this Tuesday, 10/14/25.
