Hi I'm Kayla and I am the editor in chief for the Pomona Perspective. I have been in journalism for all of high school (I'm now a senior). My partner in crime is the assistant to the assistant regional manager, Jolene Trujillo; we are the epitome of dumb and dumber. My favorite part of journalism is being able to work along my friends and be able to do some really fun and creative projects. Here you will see the chaos that ensues when Jolene and I work together, you may think I'm joking but I'm not, so you're welcome. Enjoy.
I have one sister, Erin (pictured above) and my mom and dad (not pictured). Since Erin is now in college I am an only child.
I love coffee, more specifically iced coffee. No matter what the weather is I will almost always have coffee iced (unless its a peppermint mocha).
I love to travel and see different places and experience them. My favorite place I've been is Costa Rica (pictured above).
My past two Saturdays have been spent wandering the thousands of square feet of Barnes & Noble. If you would have told me a year ago that this would be how I spend my Saturdays I would have laughed in your face. However, things have changed and now I get a feeling of joy seeing all the different sections and the books that fill the shelves. My favorite thing has been sitting on the floor reading the first couple pages of a book making sure that the book is worth purchasing or not. A majority of the time the book I crack open is worth purchasing but there are other times where I just thought the cover was pretty so I wanted the book. So the whole don't judge a book by its cover thing is real and something you should listen to. I'm excited to get more books but I'm not looking forward to the damage to my bank account.
Everyday and every week of my life is the exact same. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays I go to school from 7:45-2:52, and then I go straight to work, and when I get off I go home eat dinner, and eventually go to bed. On Wednesdays I go to enrichment then my friend Audrey and I go and do something, which typically is getting coffee and then going somewhere to kill time since we have first off. Then, we come back to school and go to our second hour which is math of social issues, and when that class is over I go home since I have third off, and I'll eat lunch and chill until it's time to go to work. On Thursdays I'm in school from 7:45 until 1:31 and when the day is over I go home and eat lunch, then I'll go to work.
My life feels like a time loop because nothing ever seems to change. The only day of my week that is different is Saturday because what I do constantly changes, sometimes I go to the mountains with my parents, other times I go to Fort Collins to see my sister, and other times I'll go to the mall and just window shop until I actually find something worth buying. Sundays are the exact same for me every week too, I wake up at 7 and get ready then from 8:30 to 10:30 I volunteer in the kids ministry at my church, then at 11 I go and sit in on the church service, and then at 12:45 I have a student leader meeting. When that's over I go home and just chill out, my parents and I eat dinner, and then I prepare for school the next morning, and go to bed.
Don't get me wrong I love being busy because it means I always have something to do, but I don't enjoy the repetition and everyday feeling the exact same. I would love to be able to have at least two days a week where something is different, but I'm not holding my breath.
I hope things will change as the school year continues and things start to pick up more and life starts picking up as well.
Also the photo makes no sense to the post, but it's something I relate too, especially now.
The semester is wrapping up (finally) and we're getting closer and closer to break, which for me means more sleep and way less stress. This semester has been demanding to say the least between the never ending stream of homework and the stress of filling out college applications. But luckily the light at the end of the tunnel is finally visible.
It's crazy to think that after this semester wraps up I only have one more left of high school. It's hard to find the words right now, so I won't (not yet at least).
I'm looking forward to being able to chill out on my couch and watch Netflix and an abundance of Christmas movies, but unfortunately we're not there yet, so I won't get ahead of myself. We only have nine more school days left (as of December 7th) so in the meantime I'll be continuing the attempt of balancing school, work, and a very small social life. So catch me smiling through the pain (as shown in the photo)
This photo was taken after a friend threw me off their back (this is how I feel with school, it's constantly throwing me).
Well, we're officially back into the swing of things, and I'd be lying if I said I was thrilled. This winter break was the shortest one I've experienced in all of my 13 years of schooling, and I'm not happy. The break wasn't even substantial we only got the weeks with Christmas and New years and then two days before we were thrown back into the halls. Now that we're back it's quite evident to see that all of us are dying.
Our first three days back were not short of chaotic, day one involved getting back into the hallways, day two had a two hour delay and a severe lack of students, and the third day felt like the first day all over again. The first week back has always been rough for me after a long break, but adding in the factor of it being my last semester of high school has made it ten times harder. It doesn't feel real that in four months time I'll be wrapping up my days here, but I'm looking forward to getting out of these uncomfortable desks.
With all the chaos with COVID, school problems, and senioritis I'm not sure how these last few months are going to be, but I'm looking forward to the memories they will hold.
We're less than 100 days away from graduation hi
