My name is Cassidy Davidson, and I am a staff writer entering my first year of journalism for the Pomona Perspective. I actually really enjoy interviewing people, hearing people talk about themselves and learning how they think. Journalism helps me see situations from a much different perspective. It is interesting to me, to interview people, especially those I've been around for such a long time, because I'm always learning something new, there is always knowledge to be gained.
Self taught artist. Pretty much came out of the womb painting, drawing, sketching, coloring, you name it. I do a variety of different arts, I've been known to do the basics, but I've also been known to branched off to other mediums and have done small sewing projects, embroidery, woodworking, graphic design, etc.
Ever since I took photography classes at Pomona, I instantly grew a connection to the craft. It's more of something I do on my free time, a small hobby than something I would actually pursue in the future, but going to sports events, or even just going downtown and taking pictures of my friends. Getting those perfect shots in, and standing back to admire the moments I captured, is refreshing.
Growing up around an 68' Mustang, and a father who has a passion for cars and drag racing, theres no suprise that eventually the love would rub off on me as well. I've had my heart set on working with cars for a while now. From mechanical enginering, a car dealership sales associate, to even a car detailer. I want to do it all, and that is the plan after I graduate.
After Graduation 10/01/21
For the longest time I've always been super passionate about has been cars. Growing up with a car dad and being around them, working with them, learning and being taught new things, I've been inspired since day one. I just recently bought my very own car this past August, and it has been my biggest accomplishment in my life, outside of school of course. Eventually I want to expand my car collection, start a project car that I can work on for years to come and maybe even add a few nice sports cars to the mix.
After I graduate in May, I want to enroll at a trade school just specfically for automotive. It is currently still undecided on which school exactly im looking to enroll at, but my heart is set on going to some sort of trade school for automotive. I plan on going in to learn mechanics and gain the requirements to be an auto technician, maybe even take a year or two of something else while i'm there, so that I have a variety of different completions and prerequisites in a variety of different things, so that I will have a widened range on what I can do when it comes to my life long career.
Covid-19 made it extremely challenging for me to get into Warren Tech, and because of the complications due to Covid, I decided to skip out on Warren Tech both my junior and senior year so that I could focus on staying home and staying safe because I choose to stay fully remote for highschool anyways. As of right now, when I turn 18 in a few months, and while im still at school, I'm going to look into pursuing car detailing or being a car dealer until I've gained the proper licenses and until i'm fully in the clear from school and don't have to worry about balancing that and a full time job.
Since November 17th of last year, I've been working part-time at Burlington, I pratically live there, and if i'm not at school, I'm at work and if I'm not at work I'm at school. I started off as a seasonal hire, but ended up staying with the company year round, but I plan to look into something different as the company is no longer giving me what I need, but for now it is something.
Like mentioned previously, I basically live there, seven to eight and a half hour shifts, five to six days a week, and on top of that I go to school five days a week. It gets pretty stressful and its a lot, but it keeps me motivated and productive, and even though I hate it sometimes, I'd be bored out of my mind on the weekends and after school if it weren't for work.
I do everything there, I pick up after people, I run the registers, I'm a sales assoicate, and I even work the fitting rooms. It is frustrating sometimes because of how understaffed we are, especially with the holiday season coming up, and gets pretty stressful when I'm stuck doing someone else's job because they didn't show up that day, or whatever the reason. But in reality I enjoy work, it keeps me busy from all other things, and of course I'm super grateful for the opportunity I have to even have a job in the first place, aside from all of the frustration and stress that it bring on me.
As we get closer to the holidays here in the midst of November, work has been growing busier with early christmas shoppers, school feels like it is just now in full swing and it feels normal again, I've been keeping busy myself, in general everyone has been pretty busy recently. Keeping myself busy keeps my mind busy, I don't have time to overthink things and especially around this time of year it is nice.
The holidays get a bit rough for me, I definitely don't think it is the "most wonderful time of the year," as songs suggest haha. I just watched my bank account get drained as I just bought Christmas gifts for my family over the weekend but I have yet to get around to my friend's gifts this year. Don't even get me started on that small fortune thats gonna cost me on top of what I've already spent. But I know that in the end it brings me joy to see people open the gifts that I bought them, and I know that the money has been well spent. On top of Christmas coming up, there are also two Decemember birthdays to be celebrated, my mom's 45th and my sister's 21st, so thats pretty exciting. Lots of fun things coming up, lots of things to be done still.
But Thanksgiving is coming up, and I think Thanksgiving break will be a nice break from school for a week, I just hope I don't get slammed with homework and projects that need to get done and I still have to work five days that week :,). Thanksgiving is pretty fun, i get to see my Grandpa that I don't get too see often, and sometimes my grandma will fly in from Iowa to have dinner with us and my grandpa, at our house, but I'm not sure what the plan is for this year because of COVID-19 restrictions, but regardless, Thanksgiving is pretty cool cause I get the day off and I get to spend time and get to eat really good food.
We just got back into school last Wednesday, and we are now in our first full week back of school, but I will say that break did not last long enough, i'm ready for spring break already. I think we should get a whole month off not just 2 weeks haha.
What did I do over break? Hmmm... I did get sick a few days in with a common cold, but I still went to work and did the things im expected of everyday, and a few days after I began to feel better, my sister, my mom and I went to the Almo Theatre to watch the new Spiderman No-Way-Home movie. I really liked it, it was very bittersweet, I think it is very possible that it has been one of the best marvel movies I've ever seen.
Also we celebrated Christmas over break. We always go to IHOP on christmas morning to eat breakfast with my uncle and grandpa first thing when we wake up. After breakfast we then go home and unwrap gifts as a family, I got new airpods because my old ones broke, my parents got my windows tinted, a new blanket, a charger, some car fresheners, candles, you name it. My family really liked the lego sets I got them so that was cool. It was a very laid back Christmas because of covid and lack of family that was around, but overall i'm super grateful for everything I got and my family.
One more month down, about three more months to go. One more month closer to graudating, and moving onto the next step of my life. A month closer to my birthday, in March where I will be turning 18. A month closer to yet another turning point in my life. A month closer to reaching my life long goals in life. I can't wait.
Really haven't been up to much, just work and school. Leaving time for friends on the side, here and there, I've been trying to get closer to some of those I fell off with, it has been a pretty relaxed month. Since the holiday season is over, I don't work near as much as I used to, which hurts my pay check but It is nice to have more time for myself and to do the things that I love. I did actually have time to install new aftermarket speakers in my car. I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out, I was driving around for about two weeks without door panels, it was werid but so worth the wait. I just recently put my door panels back on and im geeked out about this new sound system.
It was recently my dog's birthday on Feburary 6th, she turned 8 years old. Yeah not much has happened in my life really, the next few months though, will be wild, my dad's birthday is also in March. Graudation in May, senior prom in late April, a memorial day weekend annual camping trip my family always goes on. Right now there might not be a whole lot going on, but there are good things coming in the future, and It is exciting.
