My name is Juliet Buckley
I'm a sophomore
I am a general staff editor
My birthday is November 7th
I enjoy spending time with my friends, they all mean a lot to me. Spending time with them is important to me because it is a way I'm able to express myself with them and that's important.
I love music so much and you will always find me listening to it. Music is a way to relax and to get going. It helps me get through the day and its something that helps lots of people.
One of my favorite things to do is go to concerts when I can. Concerts are something I really love going to when I get a chance. Live music is so much fun, its usually such a great experience.
Sophomore Year
10/1/2021
Coming back to school was exciting because last year I didn't really have an actual first high school year due to COVID. This year things were different, social distancing wasn't really enforced, students were allowed to attend school events, the schedules were different, it was almost like a completely normal year. Masks are still enforced but I'm ok with that. It was almost like freshman year again. This year all kids can come into the building, all high school students. I wasn't so nervous, I just didn't know what to expect.
I don't really count the orientation as the first day because it was only sophomores and not much happened. However the real first day I was excited to wear my outfit, it wasn't planned. I rushed that morning to put an outfit together at all. Seeing people was something I couldn't wait for, I was very curious to know if things were really as bad as people say. It is and it isn't. Things worked out a lot better than I was expecting. Coming back to school brought me closer to a lot of people. I've made a lot of close friendships that probably would have never happened through a screen. I'm grateful for that aspect of high school.
However, I've learned that school is very draining, coming back to school at 7:40 and having all 7 classes is something I experienced what felt like years and years ago. I ha already adapted and started to like the block days. So somedays it can be really hard to get up. I think I will start to get used to it and I already am pretty much but some days are difficult. Sometimes it’s hard to constantly have to answer to so many people, low social battery.
I do however feel a lot better about school than I did last year. I felt a little out of place last year and this year I feel like I know things a little better. Some days I miss online but I'm grateful to have the opportunity to come back into the building. I have a better connection with my teachers, I have more friends, I know where things are and I'm learning to navigate other things. I enjoy the school activities and homecoming was very fun. Things have been good.
1st Concert back
10/24/2021
Over the last year and a half communities have been coming together to protect each other. This means no big events, no public gatherings, no face-to-face meetings. Luckily most people stuck to these guidelines and followed them thoroughly. Many music artists did their best to stay close and connected to their fans. Lots of online events took place and many fans and people attended these through a screen. Because COVID was such a new concept to the world, we didn’t know how to combat it properly, therefore, many things were canceled or pushed away.
Luckily now with science, we have various ways to keep ourselves safe and protected from COVID.
August 8th of 2020 was the Harry Styles concert. If you know me you know I love Harry Styles, so of course, I got a ticket to see him. Harry Styles and his team decided to push back the concert to September of 2021. I was sad because I was looking forward to it but I knew it was for the best. So I patiently waited for September to roll around, I was worried about COVID and the risks of going. However, I did get vaccinated and I did and do wear my mask. I know these things do not completely protect me from getting COVID but they are important precautions.
September finally rolled around and I was so excited to go to the concert. I was ecstatic. I had a very good ticket and so I was prepared. I went to school the day of the concert and then I came home and Immediately got ready and left for the Ball Arena. I got there around 3:30 and there were already people lined up, like a lot of people. To be able to enter you had to either show that you were vaccinated or a negative COVID test from the last 48 hours. I got through the checkpoints and then waited in line as well until the doors opened at 6. Most people were wearing their masks and were respecting other people's space. After waiting many many hours in the sun I was finally able to enter.
Inside the arena, everyone was wearing masks and spreading out to get a spot near the stage. After a while, the arena filled up and almost every spot was filled. I was in the pit (standing floor spot) where everyone squeezes together and tries to get as close as possible to the stage. I was worried about that in terms of COVID but everyone wearing masks and keeping them on made me feel better. About 15 minutes before the show started there was a pre-recorded message from the artist, asking for fans to keep their mask on and just a 20-second clip of him talking about COVID and the precautions to take.
The show finally started and everyone managed to be respectful and from what I know most people did wear their masks the entire time. Harry’s team and management had people who would tell people to please put their masks on if they’re not eating or drinking. Even with the mask on I still had an amazing time and still managed to shout the lyrics and have a safe experience. After the concert, my voice was shot from yelling. As the weeks went on I made sure to monitor any symptoms and check social media to make sure no one had been sick
This year has been quite the ride. We spent the year adjusting to the new way of life after the pandemic hit.
Even with the rough year, there has been one thing that has kept me sane throughout it all and you guessed it, music. Every year there is one thing that everyone anticipates and it's called Spotify Wrapped. If you have Spotify then at the end of the year (almost) you get something called Spotify Wrapped. It's an overview of your music over the year. It shows how many minutes you spent listening to music over the year, our top artists, your most-listened-to song, and many other neat things. It is something that a lot of people get really excited about. Spotify Wrapped is kind of competitive and people like to brag about theirs… It's kind of like the Grammys for music listeners, except instead of artists being awarded and presented, it's the listeners.
Compared to last year, this year's Spotify Wrapped was a lot different for me. This year I got into a lot of new music and found many new artists and listened to many new genres. One of the artists I found this year I ended up really liking…really really liking. This new group that I started listening to ended up being my top artist of the year. I wasn’t very surprised by this but considering I haven’t even listened to them for a full year it might be surprising for others.
Another thing I found interesting was that I listened to a total of 84,985 minutes of music this year. This shocked me because this is quite a lot of minutes. However, I saw other people who had over 100,000 minutes and that right there is an accomplishment. You could even say streaming music is a full-time job. I believe that listening to music can be a form of healing or coping. Whether you listened to 4 minutes of music all year or 100,000 you hopefully had an amazing experience.
The next big thing on this years Wrapped was my top 5 songs. Once again this group I started listening to dominated. 4 out of 5 are songs by them. Let me just say I didn’t mean for this to happen, I just really enjoyed these songs. They all provoked emotion or just made me feel happy when I listened to them. I definitely would recommend #2 It's a very upbeat and catchy song.
Overall, my Spotify Wrapped wasn’t the most interesting but I still like it because it still says a lot about me… I really like mainstream music and artists. Spotify Wrapped is just something fun and simple to look forward to if you like music. I’m already looking forward to next year. I’m going to aim for 100,000 thousand minutes. I also definitely want to listen and find some new artists to listen to because that is always fun.
Winter break was very refreshing and very needed. I think everyone was getting to their breaking point, with finals and grades in general. The very last day before break felt exhausting but exciting because we finally made it to break.
I didn't do a lot over break. I slept and caught up on reading and hung out with a few friends. I watched Modern Family, I really like that show and think its really funny. Its about this family and all their crazy filled days. I am kinda like a middle aged lady, thinking about it.
I first hung out with my friend Alex, we had watched movies and cooked food and painted. About a month before this we watched IT at her house, not the original. So we decided to get together again and watch the second one. We originally watched it at night but both of us are old ladies and fell asleep halfway through, so we had to rewatch it the next day. We also painted and hers came out way better than mine because I'm terrible at painting.
Then I got together with my friend Yashaswi and it was really nice to hangout with her outside of school. Its refreshing to have a good conversation about our lives outside of school. We also painted and listened to music which as really fun. She painted a panda and I painted flowers. I simply don't know how to paint anything else. They came out cute though. We also drank hot chocolate and ate a lot of food.
Right before we went back to school my friend Jordan and I hung out. We had been planning this for super long but things kept getting in the way. So it was really exciting when we finally got to hangout. We sat on her floor and talked for awhile which was nice. Then we talked

If you're cool you're playing the fun game Wordle. Wordle is a game, only it isn't on an app, it's web-based. You go onto your local web browser and type in Wordle, the website will show up as Wordle - The New York Times. From there you will immediately start the game. The basis of the game is to guess a five-letter word in six tries. With each word, you type the letters will either turn grey, green, or yellow. If the word is yellow then that means that the letter is in the word but it isn't in the right spot. Green means that it's in the word and the correct spot. If the word is grey then it means that it isn't in the word.
Multiple people I know play wordle including me, it was originally brought to our attention by my Human Geography teacher Mr. Martin. At first, I wasn’t very interested and neither were my friends but then once you start playing it's fun. I think it's the anticipation of waiting for the new word and the satisfaction of figuring it out. All of my friends started playing as well and everyone posts their daily Wordle score on their social media accounts.
Every day you play you and get the word you add to your streak, if you miss a day you lose the streak. That's also part of the fun, to track all of your progress. Wordle has blown up around the US as well. One morning I came downstairs and they were talking about Wordle on the news and then my mom was talking about it. It’s blown up and it's just fun and light-hearted.
Since the big blow-up different versions of Wordle have dropped. There is a Taylor Swift version of Wordle called Taylordle. Then there's also Dordle which is where you have 6 chances to guess two, five-letter words instead of one. If you’re thinking this game is only for people who like English and spelling you’d be wrong. There is a math version of Wordle called Nerdle, where you guess math equations and their answers. It's not something I’m very interested in because I’m atrocious at math so it's not for me.
