25th District

Saul Arellano

Saul Arellano, a human rights activist since a young age, has now grown up to take action within our communities. Having witnessed the deportation of his mother in 2007, and later moving to Mexico for several years, the impact of community action became ingrained within him. He believes that a strong community is funded to thrive not simply survive. Establishing sustainable funding dedicated to youth programs, mental health services, and education, work as crime prevention by keeping youth engaged. Creating a community schedule with the working class in mind allows families to participate in conversations as to what community safety looks like for them. Furthermore, conversations among neighbors allow for the creation of expectations and consequences for police who overstep their responsibilities. We intend to have a participatory democracy model, giving the community access to voice their concerns in regard to Public Safety. Establishing the grounds for police accountability means re-imagining public safety with our kids in mind. Having worked as a mentor with the Boys & Girls Club, he saw first-hand what violence and lack of funding in local schools have on our community's youngest members. It’s time for new leadership ready to advocate and fight hand-to-hand with and for our sacred communities.
