About Our Coalition
Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS) is a broad coalition of Chicago organizations and individuals working to hold police accountable and create safe neighborhoods across Chicago.
ECPS is made of dozens of churches, temples, labor unions, community-based organizations, LGBTQ+ communities, immigrants and youth organizations. Together, we represent thousands of Chicago residents who are working to transform Chicago's broken systems of policing. Scroll down to see all of the organizations who support ECPS.
ECPS came together in February 2021 with the unification of the organizations behind the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability (GAPA) and the Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) ordinances. We merged our separate pieces of legislation, combined our powers, and led the historic passage of ECPS through the Chicago City Council in July 2021.
Throughout the next year, ECPS is mobilizing Chicago residents to get involved in this powerful new system for police accountability!
Does your organization want to be part of our ECPS coalition? On Thursday, August 25, join us for a special orientation for new community organizations, where we'll share our strategy, tactics, and ways you can mobilize your constituents to take action.
