School News and Important Information
Important Safety Note
We have begun using our play fields for recess and for P.E. classes, which is so much fun for our students! This means we have students using the crosswalk between the school and the fields all day long. Please be very cautious if you drive along that side of the building. Thank you!
Attendance
Dear Parents, We want to celebrate that our school attendance data has already improved over last year! Thank you for helping us to achieve the goal of increasing student achievement by improving our attendance at school! When our students are in class every day at 7:40, our instruction time is maximized and our students thrive! Thank you so much for your partnership with attendance!
Classroom Deliveries
If your child forgets something at home or if you are brining a special treat for the class, please plan to drop items off at school prior to 10:30 a.m. This will help us to ensure we have time to deliver everything to classrooms. Thank you!
Transportation Update
Our bus routes have grown as our community has grown! In order to ensure the safe transport of every HES student, we are not able to accommodate additional students on bus routes that they don't normally ride. Thank you for understanding that we cannot accept notes for students to ride different bus routes home in the afternoons. Students may only ride the bus that serves their home address. Again, thank you for understanding. Your child's safety is our priority!
Nutrition Update
We are off to a happy, healthy start to the new year at HES! As part of the school wellness initiative, we provide times for breakfast, lunch and snack in our daily schedule. Please help us to ensure that water bottles only contain water and that food brought into school is not fast food from commercial establishments for these scheduled times. Thank you for your partnership!
The Jackson County Board of Education approved Ms. Aja Ledford as the new principal of Heroes Elementary School! Ms. Ledford, who has served as an assistant principal at HES since the school opened in 2024, will begin her new duties in July!

March kicks off our K-Kids Annual March of Dimes Drive! The fundraiser runs from March 2–31, and we’re excited to get started!
Last year, we raised an incredible $2,300—and we’re hoping to beat that total this year! Families can donate spare change or use the online link to give digitally, making it easier than ever to support this important cause: https://jacksoncountyga.schoolwindow.com/estore/hes/hes_k-kids_marchofdimesdrive.html.
The grade level that raises the most money will earn a popsicle party!
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students make a difference in our community!
We’re excited to host Career Day at Heroes Elementary School on May 12, 2026!
We’re inviting families and community members who would love to share their careers and experiences with our students. If you’re interested in participating, please complete the interest form by Friday, April 3.
We can’t wait to showcase the many talents and professions in our Heroes community!
🎉 Exciting Opportunity for Sponsorship! 🎉
We’re reaching out to amazing local businesses and generous families to help us create an unforgettable end-of-year celebration for our 5th graders! This year, we’re planning an incredible trip to Legacy MMA and special Class of 2033 T-shirts to commemorate their journey as they head into middle school. Our goal is to raise $4200 to cover the expenses for the ENTIRE 5th-grade class, and we would love for you to be part of this exciting milestone!
💥 Here’s where YOU come in: 💥 If you or someone you know owns a business, we would be thrilled to feature your logo on the back of the T-shirts as a big thank you for your support! It’s a fantastic way to get exposure in the community while helping make this event extra special for our students. Sponsorship donations must be made by April 24, 2026, to ensure your business is included on the T-shirts.
Got questions or want more info? Don’t hesitate to reach out to the PTO at WeareheroesPTO@gmail.com or chat with any of the 5th-grade teachers.
Square1 Art fundraiser order packets have been sent home with students. This fundraiser helps our art teacher, Mrs. Mitchell, stock her storage closet with art supplies while giving you precious keepsakes.
The deadline for ordering is April 3rd.
All orders will ship to your house.
Please take a moment to view the photo below of our Lost and Found. All unclaimed items will be donated next Friday, March 27, so be sure to check for any missing belongings before then!
Make plans to join us for HES Field Day 2026! 🎉
All Field Day activities will take place on the Legacy Knoll Middle School field, and families are welcome to come cheer on our students. We recommend bringing a chair, as bleacher seating will be limited. Pre-K will have a separate Field Day, with details coming soon.
To help keep things running smoothly, please be mindful of the LKMS car rider line and plan to arrive after 8:45 AM. Parking will be available in the back parking lot at LKMS.
We can’t wait to celebrate a fun-filled day with you!
