School News and Important Information
Attendance
Dear Parents, We want to celebrate that our school attendance data has already improved over last year! Thank you for helping us to achieve the goal of increasing student achievement by improving our attendance at school! When our students are in class every day at 7:40, our instruction time is maximized and our students thrive! Thank you so much for your partnership with attendance!
Classroom Deliveries
If your child forgets something at home or if you are brining a special treat for the class, please plan to drop items off at school prior to 10:30 a.m. This will help us to ensure we have time to deliver everything to classrooms. Thank you!
Transportation Update
Our bus routes have grown as our community has grown! In order to ensure the safe transport of every HES student, we are not able to accommodate additional students on bus routes that they don't normally ride. Thank you for understanding that we cannot accept notes for students to ride different bus routes home in the afternoons. Students may only ride the bus that serves their home address. Again, thank you for understanding. Your child's safety is our priority!
Nutrition Update
We are off to a happy, healthy start to the new year at HES! As part of the school wellness initiative, we provide times for breakfast, lunch and snack in our daily schedule. Please help us to ensure that water bottles only contain water and that food brought into school is not fast food from commercial establishments for these scheduled times. Thank you for your partnership!
The Jackson County Board of Education approved Ms. Aja Ledford as the new principal of Heroes Elementary School! Ms. Ledford, who has served as an assistant principal at HES since the school opened in 2024, will begin her new duties in July!
Join us for Heroes Elementary Multicultural Night
March 19 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM
Celebrate the rich diversity of HES with a multicultural fashion show, cultural booths, and the opportunity to taste delicious dishes from around the world. It’s going to be a wonderful evening of learning, sharing, and celebrating our school community!
We’ll have plenty of food truck options to choose from: Bori Q’s BBQ, King of Pops, Wise Choice BBQ, Bussin Seafood, and Sugar Rush Freeze Dried Treats!
Join us for Heroes Elementary’s first Family BINGO Night on March 26 from 5–7 PM in the cafeteria—and get ready for a fun 90’s theme!
Hosted by our PTO, this will be an evening full of family fun and great prizes from local businesses like Sliced, Hoschton Coffee Co, Black Bear Offroad, The RIG, and more!
One lucky winner will even take home a giant bouncy house rental from Classic Jumps!
Don’t forget to dress the part—the family with the best 90’s gear will win a prize for best dressed! 🕶️
Pre-sales close March 24 at midnight, so be sure to grab your tickets in advance. We can’t wait to see everyone there for a night of BINGO, prizes, and 90’s fun!
Spring Picture Day is coming up on March 20!
Spring pictures are optional, and only students who pre-pay will have their photos taken. Please be sure to place your order in advance, as the prepaid ordering link will close on Thursday, March 19 at 8:00 PM.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026–27 school year is now open!
Students who are currently enrolled in a JCSS Pre-Kindergarten program do not need to complete a registration application.

March kicks off our K-Kids Annual March of Dimes Drive! The fundraiser runs from March 2–31, and we’re excited to get started!
Last year, we raised an incredible $2,300—and we’re hoping to beat that total this year! Heroes Elementary was honored to welcome Malcolm Mitchell—former Georgia Bulldogs football and New England Patriots wide receiver and now the Georgia Reads Literacy Coach—for a special visit!
During his time at HES, Mitchell spoke with students about the importance of literacy and his love for reading. He also read his book, Hey, Georgia!, to all of our second and third grade students.
As part of this exciting visit, the Jackson County School System officially received its $20,000 check as a recipient of the Georgia Reads Community Award. It was a wonderful day celebrating the power of reading with our students and community!
