School News and Important Information
Attendance
Dear Parents, We want to celebrate that our school attendance data has already improved over last year! Thank you for helping us to achieve the goal of increasing student achievement by improving our attendance at school! When our students are in class every day at 7:40, our instruction time is maximized and our students thrive! Thank you so much for your partnership with attendance!
Transportation Update
Our bus routes have grown as our community has grown! In order to ensure the safe transport of every HES student, we are not able to accommodate additional students on bus routes that they don't normally ride. Thank you for understanding that we cannot accept notes for students to ride different bus routes home in the afternoons. Students may only ride the bus that serves their home address. Again, thank you for understanding. Your child's safety is our priority!
Heroes Salutes
At Heroes Elementary, we love celebrating the positive choices that make our school a safe, respectful, and responsible community!
We’re excited to launch Student and Staff Salutes — special shout-outs for those who go above and beyond to live our school values every day.
Congrats to our October Heroes Salutes students and to our October teacher honoree, Ms. Miyake, for always having a Pawsitive Attitude!
Help us stock our HES Clinic with much-needed supplies! Every donation helps keep our students healthy and ready to learn.
Heroes Elementary is proud to host our annual Veterans Day Celebration!
We invite all current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces to join us on Tuesday, November 11 at 8:30 AM in the HES gym. A reception will follow for Veterans and their families.
Heroes Elementary is excited to host our 2nd Annual Holiday Meal!

The Jackson County School System will once again be hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive to assist with families in need this holiday season. JCSS is accepting donations of the following items on Friday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Empower College and Career Center Gymnasium.
Heroes Elementary is proud to partner with one of our third graders, Charleigh, and her family to bring joy to children receiving care at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta this holiday season.
This special toy drive is held in honor of Charleigh’s cousin, Jeralee, who bravely fought leukemia and passed away five years ago, and in celebration of a dear family friend, Brentley, who courageously beat the same illness five years ago this December.
During our Holiday Meals on November 18, 19, and 20, we invite families to bring new, unwrapped toys or books to donate. All donations will be delivered to CHOA on December 15.
Together, we can help brighten the holidays for children and families spending this season in the hospital.
HES students can earn a FREE ticket to the Athens Rock Lobsters hockey game—just by reading! Log 1,000 minutes before December 17, 2025 to receive a ticket.
Reading logs are available in the media center or can be downloaded HERE.
